A Cincinnati, Ohio, megachurch is paying off $46.5 million in medical debt for over 45,000 families.
Crossroads Church announced recently that it is partnering with RIP Medical Debt to pay off the medical bills for these people in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana. RIP Medical Debt is a debt relief nonprofit organization.
Debtors will receive yellow envelopes in the mail this week informing them of the payoff, Fox News reported.
We’re Here to Bless People
Senior Pastor Brian Tome told his congregation last November that the partnership with RIP Medical Debt will give them an opportunity to “multiply” their impact on people who have medical debt. “They’ll get a letter that says, ‘Congratulations, your debt has been paid because someone loves you and there is a God that has not forgotten about you.’”
Tome read a message Sunday from someone whose debt had been paid off. They were going to throw away the envelope but decided not to after they saw what it was about. “When I read it I got emotional … because I have been so needing a break with getting my credit together. I really appreciate the gift.”
The church’s donation allowed RIP Medical Debt to pay off the largest amount of debt in the organization’s history.
“That’s what we’re here for,” said Tome in a recent interview. “We’re here to bless people. … We’re here to have an impact in our local communities.”
