Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Campaign Life Coalition moved its 22nd annual Canadian March for Life to an online platform stretched over five days. Its kickoff event on May 10 — the streaming of Obianuju Ekeocha’s film Strings Attached — attracted so many viewers that the website crashed.
“Hi everyone! We prepared for this and yet it still happened,” the group wrote on Facebook just minutes after the movie became available. “marchforlife.ca has officially crashed due to traffic. We’re trying to get this fixed asap.”
More than 3,100 people went online to watch the film, which was only available on the site on Sunday night. As a result of the crash, the organization told LifeSiteNews that they ended up leaving the film on the site overnight so anyone who had trouble viewing it had time to do so once the site was back up and running.
“Wow! Over 3000 joined us for last night’s online screening of Strings Attached,” said Ekeocha on Twitter. “Thank you so much!”
Ekeocha is the founder of Culture of Life Africa and producer of the documentary Strings Attached which shines a light on Marie Stopes International, an organization much like Planned Parenthood that is based in the UK. Marie Stopes International operates in 37 countries, including 17 African countries, and is said to be committing illegal abortions. The film is available for a fee at StringsAttachedFilm.com and Amazon Prime.
March for Life Canada’s virtual event also featured the films “Crescendo” and “Sing a Little Louder” on May 11, and “Fatal Flaws: Legalizing Assisted Death” on May 12. On May 13, a pro-life Mass will be celebrated at 6 pm Eastern followed by a candlelight vigil in honor of abortion victims.
Abortion was legalized in Canada 51 years ago on May 14, 1969, when then Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau (Justin Trudeau’s father) passed a law that changed the Criminal Code to allow abortions to be committed in hospitals. According to Life Site News, in 1988, that law was ruled to be in violation of a woman’s Charter right to security of the person and there has not been a law restricting abortion since that time. Since 1969, over 4 million preborn humans have been killed by abortion in Canada.
