Dr. Barak Monnickendam-Givon of the Israel Antiquities Authority describes it as the most astonishing discovery of his career.
A group of Israeli archaeologists has uncovered a 2000-year-old ” underground compound about 10 meters away from the Western Wall in Jerusalem’s Old City, i24 News reports.
The finding started with just one small room. Working their fingers to the bone, five weeks later they found another room connected by a stairwell, and then a third room.
The archaeologists are intrigued, wondering why was so much effort invested into building such a space? They have come up with a couple of possibilities.
