A video has gone viral in South Africa this morning showing an emotional Christian father who is outraged at a demonic art display at the Grantleigh Curro School in KZN. This school claims to be Christian and proudly declares a Christian ethos online, yet is openly displaying an art exhibition by a student that features torn up Bibles, satanic sculptures, perverse depictions of Jesus, and renditions of famous Biblical artworks reworked to depict the Mc Donalds clown.

The work has been described as ‘crucifying Jesus all over again’. When does freedom of speech become abusive?

Operational Head of the College, Juriana Filmalter, has since responded on Facebook.

Filmalter said that the art exhibition was not open for all students to view it, and that the display also contained a warning that it may not be photographed, and that the rational of the artwork needed to be read to “put the art into perspective”.

In addition, Filmalter says that the student who created the artworks is a Dux learner, and has achieved an array of academic accolades.

This story is still developing. JOY! has contacted the school, who have released an Official Statement below:

Grantleigh is situated just north of Richards Bay/Empangeni on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast. On their Facebook page they proudly declare that, “The school has a Christian ethos.”

On Grantleigh’s website they state that their mission is “to uphold Christian values and encourage principled, caring and responsible behaviour at all times.”

  1. A man cries out when he sees Christianity and the bible descecrated, and the school officials quickly run to pull out their “cyber bullying, hate speech and religious intolerance” cards. This world is upside down. Those in the wrong don’t know how to humble themselves and admit when they have crossed the line.
But then again, when our corrupted law-makers are working so hard to erase the lines we shouldn’t be surprised. Thank God for a final judgement where all crookedness will be put staight.
Christians don’t stay silent. Wake up and smell the conspiracy against our God and His Christ.

    • No need to wake up, since god is supposed to be all powerful, I’m sure he’s capable of looking out for himself.

  2. This is not religious freedom. It is an attack on Christianity.
The world awards sick, violent mockery like that. Schools shouldn’t encourage this unwholesome thrash that break down the building blocks of society.
It is worse than racism to mock anyone’s fundamental spiritual belief.
This is being ignorant of basic Human Rigthts.

  3. My reply is short and simply as our Lord Jesus often answered people that have tried to questtion his diety(Godelikheid)

And what ever answer the pupil, that created this Satanic art, nor the EXEXUTIVE HEAD Mr. ANDREW NORRIS comes up to.. I just want to let them know that the same Bible, that were cut into pieces for that art work, proclames.. That no one that host the Holy Spirit of God, is able to rebuke God.. It is impossible.. That art work.. rebukes God.. It should have never been allowed in a christian inviroment with Christian over seers.

Wat enigeen se mening is omtrent die Godslasterlike werk ook al mag wees, onthou net Jesus luister na jou jou rede, dit is dieselfde Jesus wat besluit of jou naam in die Boek vd Lewe opgeteken moet word.

  4. Please take the time to understand what these artworks are about before calling them ‘satanic’ or ‘demonic.’ The artist of these works is an exceptionally talented young man and it is not right for someone to be completely degrading his hours and hours of work. I understand that this is a Christian-based news portal but please inform yourself on this topic (and future topics) before making assumptions such as.

    • You are such a coward to be defending such despicable rubbish – under the auspices of the word ”
art” hiding your disgusting self as Anonymous. Show yourself and who you are but you can’t because you need to be ashamed and hide your head in shame. You cannot contribute anything to humanity for the good of humanity. Hide yourself like a faceless Satan.

      • wow… Jesus would be proud of you calling His creation disgusting… you’re going straight to heaven… as a Christian I find most Christians laughable.

  5. On Grantleigh’s website they state that their mission is “to uphold Christian values and encourage principled, caring and responsible behaviour at all times.”

I agree with this gentleman in the video…this so called art display is straight from the pit of hell. Alarm bells should be ringing for the leadership of this school who are responsible to uphold the values they espouse.

  6. Seriously, talented or not if that is a Christian school??Why do they reward things that don’t Glorify Our Jesus

  7. The most despicable attack on our faith as believers of Christ our Lord and Savior.
Matt10:32 “if deny me I will deny you to the Father”. Please consider the meaning and end result of this statement.
A pity anonomous does not have the courage to name themselves.
I am a born again believer and accordingly will pray for those who have tried to justify this dispicable act.

  8. I read my bible with an understanding and I am not surprised of what is happening. The bible warns us of this things, we need to pray, fast and read our bibles more. It’s going to get worse than this…let hold on to Jesus Christ and ask the Holy Spirit to guard us.Amen

  9. Disturbed by an art exhibition I’d seen
Trying to work out, what does it mean?
Bible pages lay scattered and torn
Inviting the wrath of Christian scorn
    Horned statues above scripture edified
That it’s controversial cannot be denied

To take the love of a person’s life
Depict it distorted with demonic strife
Will definitely get a jihadist reaction
    A judgement filled, personal action
This too was my shocked response
My stand, my belief to ensconce

After a while in thought and prayer
It came to me, maybe there’s more there
So I had a look once again
At these pictures so full of pain
Before I pick up my gun and shoot
Let me look to what’s at the root

Maybe now, just as back then
Jesus is ridiculed, judged by men
Taken as convenient by His own church
Leaving Him to suffer with a lurch
As we pursue our worldly agenda
    Making Him a lowly offender

Maybe the point of the art is just this
To get us to search, that we don’t miss
For the church to stop being so still
Offering scripture in a wonder pill
That it’s commission is to love not fight
That it’s task is a wholesome plight

Maybe we need to recognize satan as real
That he’s come to divide, rob and steal
    That through our jihadist response
Satin gets to strengthen his sconce
That instead of recognizing the cost
Somehow we as humanity are lost

Let us as the church and fellow man
Get out there and love everyone we can
Let us love the wayward and the week
Let us love those that answers seek
Let us love the misguided and the hurt
Let us love and our response not to be curt

For I now think the point of this art
Is get out there, love and do your part
To take the example freely given
Of Jesus who died and is now risen
To give all the support we can
And no matter what to LOVE our fellow man

Said and done, we are ALL God’s creation
No mater at what lifes station
By what He did for us on the cross
With great pain and tremendous loss
In the midst of death and accusers scorn
With His heart broken and torn
There was not a drop of hate at all
His only response was with loves call
He clearly showed us the way
To LOVE in our own special way

  10. came here for an art assignment… realised Christians were more shallow and unloving than they’d like to admit… wonderful picture you’re painting for the unsaved… can’t imagine how any of you righteous people could sit in a sinner s house.
