As of late, I have become increasingly more concerned about poverty and the many people living in desperate circumstances in our country. Did you know that nearly 3.1 million children under the age of five face chronic hunger in South Africa? Over 12 million people in South Africa go to bed hungry every night. Globally, nearly 800 million people go to bed hungry every night, and some 1.9 billion people are overweight, according to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the USA.

People need to be taken care of
In February 2019, we founded the People Matter Foundation (PMF). This Not-for-Profit Organisation focuses on nurturing, coaching, and upskilling leaders in the private sector, government, and churches. PMF also has a vision to save lives and provide humanitarian support to all people. PMF cares for people, irrespective of who they are or where they come from. People need to be given a second chance in life, sometimes countless chances. You don’t give up on them, neither do you overlook someone because at that point in time they don’t seem to add value to society. People need to be taken care of.

God cares
Very often when I preach, I always tell people that PEOPLE MATTER TO GOD. This is because in the book of Genesis we are told, “He made them in His own image.” In Psalm 4:4 David says, “What is man that You are mindful of him?” Mindfulness is deep concern, attentiveness, and alertness towards something. Matthew 10:30 says, “God even knows the number of hairs on your head.”

Be careful how you treat others
You ought to be very afraid of treating people anyhow. Be it your child, your parent, your spouse, your neighbour, your colleague, or a total stranger. Be very careful. You might be causing great offense to God directly, because people matter to Him. May the pain and suffering of others cause you to act – because people matter to God.
