Methodist Homes for the Aged (MHA), a well-respected organisation that has been providing safe, comfortable and caring accommodation for the elderly since 1970, has secured the leadership of seasoned CEO, Carl Queiros.
Carl joined the Methodist Homes family on 19th October 2020, following a successful career as CEO of the Childhood Cancer Foundation (CHOC). From an early age, Carl, who is a committed Christian, wanted to be involved in serving people in a meaningful way. “To serve those in need and to develop organisations to be effective, sustainable and impactful are my true passions,” comments Carl. With his interest piqued by the charity sector, Carl decided to complete a Social Sciences degree with Sociology, Psychology and Law as majors at WITS University where he also completed his Honours in Psychology.
From as early as 1993, Carl, a true humanitarian, served his community as Regional Director at Scripture Union for eight years. He subsequently also held Directorship positions at Mercy Ships, Habitat for Humanity International and Living Hope before joining CHOC in 2014. “I have been very blessed in my life to have worked with, experienced and interacted with many people of different cultures, faiths, and socio-economic statuses in a myriad of contexts,” says Carl, adding that he has much empathy for the challenges, complications and struggles people face in their later years.
Joining Methodist Homes in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and the nationwide hard lockdown, one of the first items on Carl’s agenda was to continue assisting the team in ensuring that all measures remain in place to protect the health of the residents at Methodist Homes’ twelve Retirement Villages in Gauteng and three in the North West Province. “Our residents fall within the high infection risk category so it is paramount that we ensure uninterrupted, top quality, professional care to all residents throughout lockdown, irrespective of the levels.”
Carl wraps up: “I am extremely excited to be on this journey at Methodist Homes. I have been enjoying working with the dedicated team over the past six months to take the organisation forward into a brand new chapter and to even greater heights. What is more, I also feel very honoured to be leading an organisation that offers some of the best care in the country for the elderly, and does so in an affordable and most compassionate manner!”
