A former US abortionist kept the remains of more than 2,000 dead babies at his home, an investigation has revealed.
Dr Ulrich Klopfer died last month, and the family’s lawyer informed the authorities of the possibility of foetal remains being kept at his place of residence in Illinois.
The authorities discovered 2,246 preserved remains there, although there was no evidence that abortions took place there.
Licence revoked
Klopfer had worked at a clinic in Indiana until it closed in 2016 when its licence was revoked.
The state health department found the clinic had failed to register patients and lacked policies regarding medical abortion.
It also did not fulfil the requirement that a person should have a minimum 18-hour cooling-off period between an initial consultation and having an abortion.
‘Sickening’
Mike Fichter, President of Indiana Right to Life, said he was “horrified” by the discovery of the remains.
He said: “These sickening reports underscore why the abortion industry must be held to the highest scrutiny”.
Indiana Representative Jackie Walorski called the reports “sickening beyond words”.
She said Klopfer “was responsible for thousands of abortions in Indiana, and his careless treatment of human remains is an outrage”.
