31 January 2023 remains the deadline date for public comments on the “Criminal Matters (Sexual Offences & Related Matters) Amendment Bill 2022.” Despite several requests to extend this grossly insufficient public participation period, the Dept of Justice & Constitutional Development (DoJ) has steadfastly ignored our pleas so they can fast-track a Bill proven to be detrimental to society.
Christian lawyers are working on a High Court application to compel the DoJ to extend the public participation period for this socially destructive Bill. It is critical that Churches, civil-society groups and private citizens oppose the full decriminalisation of the sex-industry in South Africa.

The DoJ intends repealing existing laws that criminalise the buying and selling of adult sexual services. It will make pimps, brothel owners and criminal operatives – legitimate businessmen.
