Life changed for three armed robbers in Mozambique when their robbery attempt led to repentance.
Victor, Luis, and André had just served a prison sentence for robbery. No sooner were they released than they made another attempt: this time, their target was the large crowd that had gathered to listen to FEBA Mozambique’s live broadcast. FEBA’s teams in Niassa Province have started hosting live broadcasts in various locations, to engage with listeners and raise awareness of FEBA’s radio stations.
On this day, the three robbers approached the crowd with the intention of stealing small items while the people were distracted. However, upon hearing the FEBA team’s radio drama and messages of hope, the men became so curious that they stayed to listen. By the end of the day, they had decided to repent and follow Christ.
FEBA Mozambique director Bright Sonjera says, “Their family and relatives at the event were happy to see their brothers changing their lives.”
Niassa Province is historically one of Mozambique’s poorest areas. Large numbers of people, including young people, are driven to organised or petty crime by poverty, unemployment, and substance abuse. The province also suffers from the repercussions of the jihadist insurgency, which has been going on since 2017.
FEBA Mozambique broadcasts the gospel through music, radio dramas, sermons, and lifestyle programs to teach people how to raise families, manage work and finances, and live within their communities as followers of Christ. Each program is produced by members of the community.
