Every city has a certain culture, which is defined as: a belief, custom, art, society, or groups within the city. For many church leaders, we have become experts in one season, but that does not necessarily make us an expert in the new season that is upon us. In the context of a city, each one must understand what God is doing in our cities at this present time. The spiritual climate of the city is far different to what many experienced in the years of the 80’s, 90’s, 00’s, and so forth. As we discern times, seasons, and spiritual climates we will become that much more relevant and effective in serving our cities.
The Church must sharpen their sword
God is doing a new thing with the Church in the city. It was David who advanced the Kingdom in the city of Jerusalem and surrounds. It took a sword to remove Goliath’s head – Goliath was the stronghold and principality tormenting the nation and the city. God is calling the Church to sharpen the sword against the Goliaths in our city! Sharpening the sword will enable us to be effective in a corrupt and morally-degenerate Antichrist system that is controlling the city!
Church leadership must embrace the following:
1. Their purpose and call to the city. The apostolic call brings Kingdom-transformation and reformation. Reformation will result in many new leaders being raised in various spheres of influence, for city transformation.
2. Develop a love for the city, having a burden to serve your city. God will raise those who have a servant’s heart and have the vision to disciple and win the lost in the city.
3. The building of partnerships with the spiritual eldership in the city will enable a diversity of ministry, thus being conducive to a more powerful impact and greater reach of the city.
4. A striving for the advancement of Psalm 133. This is the conduit for a dynamic outpouring of God’s glory, which can only weaken Goliath’s control over the city.
5. Transformation and reformation within the city is a result of leaders understanding the seven mountains mandate. The question we all need to answer is this, have you become awakened to your individual calling and mandate to bring transformation and reformation to your city?
