South African author Caren Joyce Reid never set out with the ambition of becoming a writer. The journey began much more quietly – through conversations, ministry and the encouragement of people who recognised that the lessons Caren had gained through her own experiences could help others too.
The idea of writing was first planted by people she encountered through ministry, who encouraged her to share what she had learnt along the way. What began as a seed gradually developed into a calling to put those lessons into words – not simply to tell her own story, but to help other Christians navigate some of the questions, disappointments and challenges she had encountered herself.
Today, that seed has grown into a collection of books addressing very practical areas of life. While the subjects differ, Caren’s purpose remains consistent: to bring the everyday struggles of life back to the foundation of God’s Word and encourage readers to seek His wisdom through Scripture and prayer.
From relationships to the workplace
Caren’s first book, I Am My Beloved’s and My Beloved Is Mine, grew out of her own experience of singleness and the longing for marriage. Rather than presenting relationships simply as a romantic pursuit, the book explores what it means to approach love, courtship and marriage from a Biblical perspective.
Caren addresses questions surrounding relationships, waiting and preparing for a God-honouring marriage, while incorporating prayers throughout the book. Her own journey gives the subject a personal dimension, while the emphasis remains firmly on allowing Scripture to guide the way Christians approach relationships.
Her second book, Whatever You Do, moves into another area that occupies a significant part of everyday life: work.
Drawing from her own difficult employment journey, Caren considers questions of purpose, character and perseverance in the workplace. The book challenges readers to look beyond simply earning a living and to consider what it means to approach their work as an opportunity to serve God.
Whether dealing with difficult circumstances, workplace relationships or questions about purpose, the emphasis is once again on allowing faith to shape the way we respond to ordinary life.
A message of healing and restoration
Caren’s third book, The Leaves of the Tree Are for the Healing of the Nations, turns its attention to healing and restoration.
The book traces themes such as God’s love, salvation, forgiveness, repentance and healing throughout Scripture. Rather than treating these subjects in isolation, Caren encourages readers to bring their lives before God, surrender to Him and learn to pray according to His Word.
At the heart of the book is an invitation to return to Scripture – to discover what God says about healing and restoration and to allow those truths to shape our relationship with Him.
Bringing life back to the Word
Although Caren’s three books explore very different aspects of life – relationships, work, and healing – they share a common foundation.
Her writing begins with the conviction that the questions we face in everyday life should not be separated from our faith. Whether someone is waiting for a relationship, struggling in the workplace, searching for purpose, or walking through a season in need of healing and restoration, God’s Word remains a place to return to.
For Caren, writing is therefore not simply about sharing experiences or offering practical advice. It is about pointing readers back to Scripture and encouraging them to seek God for themselves.
What began as an unexpected suggestion from people in ministry has become a growing body of work with one clear purpose: to help Christians bring the realities of everyday life before God, discover His wisdom in His Word, and allow Biblical truth to shape the way they live.
