Just outside Cape Town, something special is taking place. Children are laughing, friendships are forming, and young hearts are encountering the love of Jesus in a real and personal way. Through worship, adventure, mentorship, and discipleship, Camp of Good Hope is creating a space where young people can step away from the pressures of everyday life and discover hope, purpose, and belonging in Christ.
A vision born through obedience
Camp of Good Hope was founded in 2023 with a mission to serve and minister to children through the transformative experience of Christian camp. With a special focus on at-risk youth, the ministry combines fun-filled camps with practical care and Gospel-centred discipleship. For executive director Sindisa “Joshua” Mrulekana, the vision was shaped during a season of sacrifice and preparation. Joshua spent nearly a year in Texas completing the immerse programme at Camp of the Hills, where he received hands-on training in all aspects of camp ministry, including leadership, fundraising, administration, retreats, and summer camp programming. At the same time, his wife, Jessica, was completing her nursing internship in Brazil. Together, the couple sensed the Lord leading them towards a ministry that would care for both the spiritual and physical wellbeing of children.
Lives are changed
The ministry hosted its very first summer camp in 2023, welcoming 90 campers. One of the most memorable moments came when 16 young people were baptised in the cold waters of Llandudno beach. What began at rented venues quickly grew into something much bigger.
A permanent home
While praying over a property in the Cape Farms area, the team believed the Lord was preparing a permanent home for the ministry. Then came what Joshua describes as a “God-sized miracle”. Through the generosity of a partner who stepped in at exactly the right time, the property was purchased in 2024. Since then, renovations have been completed, volunteers and supporters have rallied behind the vision, and children have already begun attending camps at the new facility. Camp of Good Hope also places focus on preventive care, helping identify possible medical, hygiene, and nutritional concerns among children who may otherwise not have access to support.
Disconnect and encounter God
This December, Camp of Good Hope will host three summer camps centred around the theme “Fruit of the Spirit”. The camps are intentionally designed to help young people grow spiritually while building friendships and enjoying the outdoors in a Christ-centred environment. Camp of Good Hope is also a tech-free camp, meaning no phones or electronic devices are allowed. The aim is to create space for genuine connection, meaningful conversations, worship, and time in God’s presence without distraction.
The upcoming summer camps include ages 18-25 from 30 November-4 December, ages 7-10 from 7-11 December, and ages 11-14 from 14-18 December. Registration opens in July.
