Alan Storey of Central Methodist Church, Cape Town has put up a banner saying ‘The blood of Jesus will not save you from Covid… Get vaccinated’. While the intent of his message, to encourage vaccination, rather than spiritual presumption may have some value, are the actual words Biblical? Is the blood of Jesus actually limited in power so that it cannot save you from Covid19?

Every single person who has died believing in the blood of Jesus will be resurrected at his return – not just spiritually, but with their physical body – including all those who died of Covid19. In other words, the atoms that make up their bodies will all rise out of the dust and heal whatever killed them. Unfortunately, our Western Christian culture being edited by the lens of Greco-Roman culture tends to side line this issue of physical resurrection. The Eastern church, later mostly extinguished by Islam did not have this problem. If one looks at the statement of the Gospel preached in the scriptures it centres around physical resurrection – not just spiritual heaven. The fullest statement is in 1 Corinthians 15. So no. Alan Storey is making a blasphemous and false statement. Jesus will save those who believe in him from every disease.

Now if Jesus will resurrect everyone who believes in him at his return, the second question which flows from this is whether Jesus can save us in this life now before our death – to save us from contracting Covid19 or dying of it? Now we do have record of numerous healings and the resurrection of other dead people in the Bible. All such miraculous healings in this life are a partial participation in the future resurrection of all believers to meet Christ at his return. Now if God who created man in the first place, can piece together billions of atoms to recreate millions of human beings out of the dust, healing every disease and sickness that killed them – is it really so difficult for him to heal someone from Covid19?

But we do not now have the final coming of the kingdom of Christ, and so only experience taste of eternity. So it is fully within his power, at his sole and sovereign discretion. That should not encourage us to be reckless and foolish with our health. But Alan Storey’s blasphemous denial of the power of the blood of Jesus cannot go unchallenged.

  1. The statement that Alan has made is extremely blasphemous..and I recommend that he repent and fast. The Blood of Christ is extremely powerful and incorruptable. To say the blood cannot cure covid is like saying it cannot cure aids..TB…etc. Christ shed his precious blood for our sins..now we are saying it’s worthless!!! My word..people wake up and see you are being deceived. I’ve seen the USA and many countries lift there fist to God…let SA not go that route.

  2. Alan Storey is obviously living in fear and is desperately seeking to please the government.
I believe he has an Antichrist spirit.

  3. I stand in agreement with you Martin AMEN. this is absolutely blasphemous and May God punish the devil 🔥in the name of Jesus Christ. This is where we discern the spirit behind this
UNBIBLICAL utterance. It is clear to me that the Holy Spirit is noy in these types of churches. This illustrates the difference between “Religion” and True Christianity. I felt so saddened when I read this on News24. Where are the Christian pastors to speak to for Jesus?… are they asleep ?… these are times of being wide awake

  5. The writer has taken the story completely out of context. Read the sign just for what it says n nothing else. Martins response makes the sign say what it doesn’t say. The blood saves us from inherited sin from Adam. Holy Spirit “renews” or regenerates us n can heal us when we pray.
Nothing blasphemous about the sign. If one thinks differently then don’t go to a doctor ever, take no precautions against covid because you csn be “healed by the blood!!??”. Or will you take all the precautions n then trust the blood!? Blood not good or safe enough?
Christians neither live longer or are they healthier than non believers …. fact.
