On 12 November 2024, FEBA celebrated its 55th year of ministry in Indonesia, the country with the largest Muslim population in the world. Over the past five decades, FEBA Indonesia – also known as YASKI – has grown into one of FEBA’s most dynamic fields, and today it shares the Good News “on-site, on air, and online.”
FEBA Indonesia operates seven of its own radio stations. However, thanks to the Mission Outreach Radio Expansion (M.O.R.E.) project, its programs are broadcast across 141 stations throughout the archipelago. On-air ministry holds some challenges, according to one of FEBA Indonesia’s young staff members, who says, “Creating programs for radio that are mostly spiritual is quite a challenge because we have to present the Word of God. We must not change the meaning, and we have to avoid presenting the wrong interpretation.” A fellow staff member adds, “In producing something, we don’t take it lightly. We really contemplate on it and pay close attention to it, [to determine] whether this is the news that God wants us to share with people.”
The team delivers the message to every ear within reach, be it through its award-winning children’s programs, its outreaches to refugees in Jakarta, or its regular worship services at detention centres, where one prisoner said that YASKI’s arrival felt “as if we were visited by family.” Since 2000, FEBA Indonesia has also joined hands with other missionary organisations to help rural pastors and missionaries cultivate independent income streams, so that they can support themselves while carrying out the Great Commission. To date, the project has helped 11 000 people in ministry.
