FEBA Mozambique’s Radio Chiuanjota has started broadcasting a youth discipleship program. The program is aimed at young people from the villages of Chiconono, Chiuanjota, Muembe and Lundale. Most people in this rural northwestern corner of the country have a strong Yao Muslim background. The Yao people group is largely unreached, but FEBA looks forward to changing that, and its efforts have now expanded to include the youth.
The program started broadcasting in June this year. Upon noticing an encouraging increase in the number of young believers among their listenership, the team at Radio Chiuanjota began developing a program to help these young people grow and strengthen their faith. The program centres on topics such as leadership and the young listeners’ future, and presenters encourage young people to make a positive difference in their respective churches and communities.
When asked what they hope to achieve with the youth discipleship program, FEBA Mozambique Director Bright Sonjera says: “I hope that the program will help more churches with youth programs, [and that] it will also help the stations of FEBA Mozambique to have good broadcasters and strong presenters.”
The producers of the youth discipleship program regularly visit schools to interact with young people and tell them about the new program and FEBA Mozambique’s work. While it is too early for listener feedback, a team has been created to follow up on prayer requests and keep in touch with listeners who contact the station with questions.
