One of our partners, Far East Broadcasting Association (FEBA), forwarded this letter from one of their mission stations in Mozambique. Due to safety concerns we were asked not to publish where this mission station is in Mozambique, but please pray with us for their safety.

Dear supporter
Most of you are aware of the Islamic extremist activities in Cabo Delgado – our province. The group has moved closer to our area in recent weeks and is responsible for much sadness, chaos and loss.

On Monday they attacked a town in our district; killed 7 people and burned 164 homes, also destroying food stores and other resources. It is at the heart of the area where we started radio clubs just a few weeks ago. A week before this attack, they slit ten people’s throats about 25 km south of Palma – among which were children who just happened to be there. The group divided into smaller units and targeted a wide area.

Recently they burned homes in the village where we started our first radio club just a few weeks ago.

Many villages are empty after inhabitants fled. Even places just outside the village. The people live in fear and cannot walk freely to their fields and it is time to harvest the rice. Hundreds of families, who are already struggling to survive, lost almost everything. The maize crop also failed this year. Many people are streaming to the larger villages and towns. Some are stranded with nowhere to go.

There is so much fear and disruption. This situation causes a lot of other unusual and unsettling things. Two of our staff members traveling to their hometown, to speak to some of our listeners, were captured by the police and kept in jail for nearly a day – purely because they were two young men traveling from another area.

The radio station is located outside the village and is quite isolated. We sleep with one eye open at night, because even though we believe that we must continue to be here on the mountain, we are vigilant.

We are not sure what our role should be in all this need. We are looking at possibilities to support some of our radio friends.

Please pray for wisdom. Please pray with us for peace to return to this area; for a Godly solution.
