Pastor Raymond Lombard is someone who is actively obeying the Great Commission. He not only preaches this but also rolls up his sleeves and gets involved on the frontlines to preach the Word and train disciples – from missionary work in African countries to training house church leaders in China.
FIREWALL EVANGELISM
Pastor Raymond is in the Amazon doing Firewall training. In 2014, the Firewall Project initially aimed to set up a firewall of God’s Spirit and grace in Africa. The focus was on the countries from Senegal to Ethiopia and southwards to Mozambique. The Church of God World Missions Africa Council then appointed Raymond as the coordinator of this Firewall project and, since 2016, the project has developed into a global initiative, Global Fire Advance. Raymond is one of the founding members of the Global Fire Advance. Their goal is to strategically plan and accomplish evangelism, discipleship, and church planting all over the world with specific involvement in South and Central America. To date, strategic training has been conducted in Panama, as well as in Chile, Ecuador, Peru, and Argentina. Pastor Raymond has trained thousands of pastors in four major cities of India (Ranchi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and New Delhi), as well as in Southeast Asian countries such as Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines. This year, in October and November, there will be two international outreaches to India and also the Philippines, as well as one locally, in Durban.
INVOLVEMENT IN ACADEMIC TRAINING
Church of God International Bible College
In April, Pastor Raymond handed in his thesis for his doctorate in missiology at the North-West University and believes that training pastors is of crucial importance, especially in Africa. He is very closely involved in the academic training of these pastors. “In many African countries, churches have an average of one trained pastor for every 50 churches! The goal with our Church of God International Bible College (COGIBC) is to provide training to the 93% of pastors, preachers, and evangelists who are not adequately trained (or not at all), and to equip them with the help of a recognised theological, pastoral programme,” he says about the Bible school that launched in 2021 and of which he is the vice-chancellor. Koinonia Discipleship Training Academy
Due to his continued involvement with missionary work, as well as academic training of evangelists and pastors, Raymond was the obvious choice as a partner of the Koinonia Discipleship Training Academy, which Hannes Pretorius founded last year. Pastor Raymond goes to the campus in Mossel Bay on a regular basis to lecture. Students of this discipleship year can acquire credits during the service year for Jesus in preparation for further studies at COGIBC.
