A FEBA co-ordinator’s faithful work has drawn attention in a Yao village in Tanzania.
After Ramadan ended on 19 March, the chief of this village became grievously ill. The villagers, however, were not supportive and would not take him to the hospital, because they disagreed with the chief’s tolerant attitude towards local Christians. If he wanted help, he could get it from the Christians.
FEBA’s coordinator in Tanzania happened to visit the village at this time. When he learned of the situation, he took the chief to the nearest hospital on his motorcycle. The chief was in the hospital for 5 days and 5 nights. The villagers were convinced he was going to die, but after five days, the co-ordinator brought him back to the village, whereupon the chief’s wife waved a linen cloth in the air, shouting, “My husband is alive!”
News spread through the village, and everyone came to see the chief, cheering when they witnessed his recovery. The people were deeply impressed by the coordinator’s actions, especially when he returned with 2 kgs of beans, sugar, meat, flour, and rice for the chief. They have become open to the gospel, saying that Christians have the works to back up what they preach.
Litala FM, FEBA Malawi’s radio station, broadcasts Chiyao programs via shortwave from Eswatini, from where it reaches listeners in Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, and Zambia.
These countries are currently experiencing devastating floods, with more than a million people affected. In Malawi, a large number of FEBA listeners were displaced after their homes collapsed and their belongings washed away.
FEBA Malawi’s director, Pastor Amos Siyabu Phiri, says there is still much to be grateful for.
“We thank God, because even though many [listeners’] houses collapsed, not a single person was hurt.” For more information about FEBA and its work, please visit www.febaradio.co.za
