South Africa observed “Youth Day” and “Fathers’ Day” this past week. Media reports often lament the dire lack of employment and general opportunities for young people in the country. Millions of youths lack direction – and the benefit of a loving and stable family.
Tragically, the bleak future facing millions of young people is linked to the crisis of fatherless homes. The social catastrophe of dysfunctional families is compounded by a corrupt and incompetent government that ideologically oppose the God-ordained family unit.
The World Family Declaration says, “Family a universal community based on the marital union of a man and a woman, is the bedrock of society, the strength of our nations, and the hope of humanity. As the ultimate foundation of every civilization known to history, the family is the proven bulwark of liberty and the key to development, prosperity, and peace.”
It continues, “the family is also the fountain and cradle of new life, the natural refuge for children, and the first and foremost school to teach the values necessary for the well-being of children and society. The family truly is our link to the past and bridge to the future.”
Unsurprisingly, as the family disintegrates in South Africa – aided by anti-family state policies – untold numbers of youth, robbed of the provision, discipline and loving guidance of a father in the home have lost their way and succumbed to crime, violence and a myriad social ills.
Now woke corporations like the Sweden-based retail chain, H&M has joined the political assault on the family by defiantly promoting LGBTQ propaganda in store front displays. This is not H&M’s core business but it chooses to undermine the natural family in SA.
I was so appalled by the radical store-front display that I recorded a brief video. Several images of what appear to be transgender individuals are featured alongside slogans like, “Family is the people who love you, no matter who you love.” And “There are no set roles. We’re a living organism” – a direct repudiation of the God-given roles of a father and a mother in the natural family. Consequently, H&M boldly joins the war on the nuclear family.
No Christian should support H&M or any business that backs the political foray on the family because they are taking a sledgehammer to the very foundations of civilization.
What is most revealing about H&M’s distortion of the family is that nowhere is the Biblical model acknowledged. It only portrays the LGBTQ counterfeit of the family – dismissing the well-documented fact that children need both a father and a mother for their well-being.
Family breakdown and the resulting scourge of fatherless homes is the root cause of crime, violence, drug and alcohol abuse, the teen pregnancy crisis, sexual abuse and exploitation, prostitution, school drop-outs, gangsterism and yes, the Gender-Based Violence pandemic.
The ‘World Family Declaration’ (FPI is a signatory) warns, “we declare that a functional, nurturing family founded on marriage between a man and a woman provides the surest safeguard of the special care and assistance to which children are entitled. Gravely concerned by the escalating calamities afflicting children and society due to the rapid decline of marriage and family, we recall the sobering observation that “throughout history, nations have been able to survive a multiplicity of disasters – invasions, famines, earthquakes, epidemics – but they have never been able to survive the disintegration of the family.”
The ANC regime has developed public policy that aims to redefine the bedrock institution of marriage between a man and woman to appease radical global sexual rights groups.
Marriage has always been a social good for all cultures and always has been a union between a man and woman for millennia. What makes marriage a public good for all cultures is its link to children’s welfare. Only marriage between a man and woman is deepened by procreation and calls for that broad sharing of domestic life uniquely fit for family life.
Liberal governments aided by UN agencies, woke corporations like H&M, Hollywood, Big Tech, and the mainstream media joined forces to diminish the roles of father and mother and in so doing, seek to redefine the family to represent its aberrant and bankrupt ideology.
The Lord Jesus positioned His believing Church as a bulwark against the encroaching darkness. He said, “I will build My Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
His Church must, therefore, boldly define the God-given identity and purpose of the family as the foundation of society by publicly reasserting the unique and indispensable roles of fathers and mothers in the social development and well-being of our future generations.
