A record number of 87 olim (Jewish immigrants) boarded planes in Cape Town and Johannesburg and landed at Ben Gurion airport at 4am on Wednesday, 28 July.

10 were from the greater Cape Town area and included 91 year old Dr Hymie Ehrlich. I chatted to him just before he boarded his flight to join his son and family, who made Aliyah 33 years ago and his daughter who arrived in Israel 4 months ago. He says he has visited Israel about 40 times throughout his life and says that “it has always been a dream” to go and live here. He was born in the Cape Town District Six hospital in 1930 and practised as a doctor until 2020, when at almost ninety years of age he was gently “instructed” to retire due to the risks associated with the Covid pandemic.

Danelle and Paul Datnow and their two sons, Benjamin and Jacob were also on the flight. They had gone to Israel on a holiday in 2017 and Danelle says that she and her husband fell in love with Israel. After talking about making Aliyah for 3 years they started the process a few months ago during the lockdown period. They plan to live in Ra’nana, a beautiful suburb north of Tel Aviv which is popular with South African Jews and where a quarter of the population is made up of immigrant families.

The International Christian Embassy Jerusalem is extremely blessed to be able to respond with financial help for flights when requested to, and funded all 87 of these Jewish immigrants (olim) flights from South Africa. We envisage that there will be a number of others from SA who will also be making Aliyah in the months ahead.

The call of God to bring the Jews home and the situation on the ground, which is deteriorating for many of them, on a number of levels, is causing many Jewish people to consider that it might be time to return to their ancient homeland sooner rather than later.

This is clearly God’s plan for them… as the prophet Ezekiel wrote all those many years ago:

“Therefore you are to say, ‘This is what the Lord God says, “Although I’ve removed them far away to live among the nations, and although I’ve scattered them throughout the earth, yet I’ve continued to be their sanctuary, even for the short time that they will be living in the lands to which they’ve gone.”’

“Therefore you are to say, ‘This is what the Lord God says, “I’m going to gather you from among the nations, assembling you from the lands among which you have been dispersed. I’ll give you the land of Israel.” Ezekiel 11: 16-17

The South African branch is blessed to be able to support and fund a number of these flights for our Jewish family. We pray and trust that it will be a blessing to them and also to our nation, as we live out Paul’s instructions to “minister to them with our material blessings” (Romans 15:27).

We all have the opportunity to play a part in this blessing…

They Have Arrived!

Steve Lightle’s healing testimony and Word about Aliyah
Shalom everybody. What a privilege it is to be alive right now and to even be able to speak to you. Many of you prayed for me. It got so bad that the hospital did not think I was going to live so they contacted my daughter and said we think we are going to have to put you dad into a hospice which means you have a maximum of 6 months to live.

That was the spot I was in just a short time ago. I went through some pain and things that I had never every experienced. But one night in the hospital after almost 3 months, I had not sat up one time. I had not rolled over. I was not able to move. I was not able to do anything. Jesus walked into my hospital room. And when he came in there was a light which I can’t even begin to explain. It was him. Him personally. And he put His hand on my chest. He spoke to me and He said. Son, everything is going to be OK. It wasn’t a vision. It wasn’t a dream because I took my other hand and I grabbed His arm and I held it. It was him. His Presence was in the room and I went to sleep without any medications or pain pills which they had been feeding me constantly. And then I woke up the next morning. I swung my feet over the edge of the bed and sat up the first time in almost 3 months.

I stood up next to my bed. There was a nurse in the room and she did not see what I did. When she turned around I took 2 steps towards her. She almost fainted. From that instant on no pain whatsoever in my body. I had a torn rotator cuff and I had at the base of my spine some very big problems and much pain. And I stood up. I walked down the halls and they measured it. I went 190 feet. It was just an absolute miracle everybody was cheering. People started crying. It was wonderful. I have so much to be thankful for.

Thank you for your prayers everybody. God has totally restored me. I left the hospital on May 31st. I left the rehabilitation center and the doctors and therapists pronounced me: “You can fly, you can go you can minister. You can do whatever God shows you. And we give you our approval.” And that was just a few days ago. (recorded in June) One thing I kept hanging on to all this time was God had shared with me that.

There was certain things I was going to do. He showed me in 1974 when he introduced me to something call “Aliyah”. Most of you know that is the return of the Jewish people to Israel. God introduced me to “His” aliyah. I had never even heard the term. I had never thought about it. In a vision He showed me the downfall of the Soviet Union and the deliverance of the Jewish people by ships and airplanes out of the Soviet Union to Israel. That was 47 years ago I believe. And so ever since that has been the passion in my heart and the thing that God has called me to is for is to share this all around the world. ….

“We have been alive , by God’s grace, to participate in this return…but the scripture talks about how this will be not just from the north [Soviet Union] but also from the East and the west and the South. And now we are seeing the Ethiopian Jewish people coming home to Israel and its been God’s love for His ancient people he is carrying that out even to this day. And he is given to the Gentiles the responsibility to bring them back home.
We still have a large number of Jewish people yet to go. And of course the largest part if from the United States of America…..How are these almost 7 million people in the United States and Canada going to return to Israel?
God knows. He is the only one to give the plan and how it is to be carried out.
