Following AbaThembu King’s visit to Israel, Israel Strengthens Ties with South
Africa’s Eastern Cape Province in the fields of water, agriculture, health and
education.
Mthatha, Eastern Cape – Israel continues to deepen its relationship with South
Africa’s Eastern Cape Province following a successful week-long visit by visiting
Ambassador, David Saranga. This marks Ambassador Saranga’s second official visit to
the province, following his inaugural trip in August 2025, underscoring Israel’s
commitment to fostering long-term partnerships with the region.
During the visit, Ambassador Saranga met with His Majesty King Dalindyebo of the
AbaThembu Kingdom to explore opportunities for cooperation and collaboration. He
also held productive discussions with the CEOs of Mthatha General Hospital and
Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital, focusing on potential collaboration with Israel’s
Sheba Medical Centre, the country’s largest hospital.
In addition, Ambassador Saranga engaged with over 50 traditional leaders from
across the Eastern Cape to identify areas of mutual interest that could benefit rural
communities. Speaking to the leaders, Ambassador Saranga stated, “We are here to
build a long-term relationship that will bring the people of Israel and the people of
the Eastern Cape closer.”
Ambassador Saranga also hosted a dinner with local business leaders, exploring
opportunities for collaboration between South African and Israeli companies to drive
economic growth, innovation, and shared prosperity. He was accompanied by
representatives from Innovation Africa, a non-profit delivering solar-powered clean
water to remote communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, and attended the opening of
the Amantshangase Tribal Council in Mpondoland, introducing Chief Bekabambo
Ntola to Innovation Africa.
The visit reinforced Israel’s commitment to the Eastern Cape as a valued partner and
friend, emphasizing cooperation, engagement, and mutual respect.
