We all know that Christ was not actually born on December 25th, and there is always a big debate amongst believers as to whether or not we should celebrate Christmas at all because of its historical origins. Whatever the case may be, we should not get riled up over Christ’s birth date – but should rather choose to celebrate Christ regardless of the controversy.
Worship Jesus every day
Christ should, in any case, be celebrated and worshipped every day, so let’s not waste valuable time arguing. Celebrate Him on Christmas day and every day of the year. Psalms 118:24 says, “This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it”. Every day is made by God and we should not give over any part of it to the enemy or allow him to take credit for it.
What is important?
Philippians 1:15-18 talks about the different motives that people have for talking or preaching about Christ. Verse 18 says, that “the important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.” What is important during this season is that Christ is talked about and preached. Let’s focus less on the debates around Christmas and focus more on celebrating and worshipping Christ, not only on December 25th, but every day!
This year as we celebrate let’s remember to:
• Celebrate and worship God first and foremost. It’s not about the Christmas trees, lights, presents, and turkeys – but about worshipping God.
• Take time out to fellowship with your family. Enjoy quality family time. Switch off the phones, laptops, and other electronic gadgets so you can talk, listen to one another, and review the year.
• Rest and recuperate. Let your body heal. Eat healthy foods.
• Spend time with disadvantaged communities. Share the love of Christ with them. Minister to them with gifts and love and present hope to them.
Ke Nako! Have an awesome festive season.
