Q. You have incorporated your life experiences into wise and practical words of advice. Can you elaborate on the key experiences or challenges that you pulled from when writing this book?
This daily devotional seeks to help people through the challenges that they may face on a daily basis. Each devotion is tailored to give the reader an opportunity to build on yesterday’s progress while preparing for tomorrow’s hurdles. I incorporated a few of my life experiences into Living Triumphantly to demonstrate that with God, all things are possible.
One experience that stands out for me was when my beloved husband, Mike, was sick for five years. This was a period in my life where I had to believe 2 Corinthians 5:7, “for we walk by faith, not by sight”. I hope my experiences will motivate readers and show them that with God, there is always a way. My life has not always been as it is today, I have faced my fair share of challenges and I believe that ‘pressure makes diamonds’.
Q. What does courageous faith mean to you?
I believe that courageous faith means fully trusting God regardless of the circumstances; being loyal and believing that He will make a way even if it may seem impossible. For example, satan tempted Jesus to jump off the highest point of the temple to test if God would save Him. Instead of jumping to prove a point, Jesus responded, “You must not test the Lord your God” (Luke 4:12). That is courageous faith! Trusting in God and depending on His Word, always.
Q. What does living a triumphant life look like to you?
To me a ‘triumphant life’ is simply living according to Christ’s Word. Jesus left us with all the tools that we need to succeed and overcome any obstacles laid before us. He died for us so that we can live triumphantly! The devil was defeated at Calvary, he should have no place in our lives. Through the Word of God, you will be able to resist and overcome the devil when he attacks you and your loved ones. Living a triumphant life is understanding the power of the tongue, practicing forgiveness, embracing God’s grace, praying consistently, and many other aspects that can be read in Living Triumphantly!
Q. Why do you feel it’s important to have daily devotionals?
Daily devotionals undoubtedly strengthen our relationship with God. Daily devotionals help us to focus on God and understand who He is, what He did for us, and His plan for our lives. God yearns for a relationship with us, He rejoices when we get to learn and decipher His Word every day! Daily devotionals are meant to encourage us when we are feeling down; motivate us when we lack ambition; educate us when we are misguided; and essentially help us to navigate this often bumpy, unpredictable, and complicated thing called life. There is no limit as to what a daily devotional can do to one’s life.
Q. Can you provide more information on the “themes to match the season you are in” that are addressed in the book?
I believe that information is easily understood when it is broken down into related topics. Just like in formal education – the curriculum developers ensure that they structure and break down learning content in ways that the learner will understand. This is how I chose to structure Living Triumphantly. Throughout the year, each month is accompanied by a theme – Living Triumphantly is made up of 12 themes to match the seasons that we may experience! Because of this structure, I am hopeful that readers will grasp and receive God’s Word fully and effectively.
