Sakhalé was a divination specialist in Mali for 19 years. He wielded a lot of power in his community, yet he had no power over his life, which was plagued by financial troubles, family and health problems, and terrible nightmares. He sought help from marabouts (Islamic holy men), jujumen (practitioners of folk magic), and other divinators – to no avail.

He lost all hope and sought solace in the music that played on FEBA Mali’s radio station, KanuYah FM. As he continued to listen, he became interested in the Christian broadcasts, as well. One day, he heard a preacher say, “Divination is a sin and will take you to hell unless you stop it and repent before you die.”

A short while later, he heard a similar warning from a different preacher.

“Now both the cause of my problem and its solution became very clear to me,” says Sakhalé. “I was sinning, and I had to stop and repent. It would mean quitting what I had built my reputation on and losing my livelihood.”

However, he found it easier than he had thought it would be.

“I was prepared to do anything to end my predicament. I sought the help of a pastor, who told me in no uncertain terms to get rid of all the cowries (shells) that I was using for divination, and everything else satanic that I was keeping, and then to give my life to Christ.”

Sakhalé did as the pastor said, and his life was transformed.

“As a Christian, I’m no longer careworn. I am now one of the happiest people in the world. Jesus has taken tons of weight off my shoulders, so that I now feel as light as a leaf, no longer laden as a donkey. God bless KanuYah FM.”
