In a society that cherishes the principles of freedom and democratic expression, the #Hope4SA Party unequivocally stands in solidarity with Shaun Christie, a final year law student at the North-West University, who has recently faced suspension for bravely defending his right to freedom of speech.

Shaun’s unwavering commitment to his principles and his refusal to be silenced have brought to light a critical issue that demands our attention. Our Party firmly believes that every individual, especially students, should be free to express their opinions without fear of reprisal or censorship. We stand not only with Shaun but also with all the students who are standing for their faith and the right to express themselves.

The incident at NWU underscores the importance of fostering an environment that encourages open dialogue and the exchange of diverse perspectives. It is disheartening to witness a situation where students, the beacons of the future, face consequences for exercising one of the fundamental tenets of democracy.

Hope Party Stands for:
1. Freedom of Speech and Religion: The cornerstone of any democratic society is the right to express one’s thoughts and religious values without fear of retribution. #Hope4SA staunchly supports this foundational principle.
2. Student Rights: Every student has the right to a safe and inclusive learning environment that nurtures intellectual curiosity and allows for the exploration of diverse viewpoints.
3. Dissenting Voices: A robust democracy thrives on the contributions of dissenting voices. #Hope4SA Party encourages the celebration of differences and the respectful exchange of ideas.

We should take a stand for Christianity – John Mathuhle

Hope Party’s Call to Action:
1. Reinstatement of Shaun: The Hope Party calls for the immediate reinstatement of Shaun Christie, emphasizing the importance of allowing him to continue his education without prejudice.
2. Review of Policies: We urge NWU to conduct a thorough review of its policies to ensure they align with democratic values and respect the rights of students to express their opinions.
3. Open Dialogue: The Hope Party encourages an open and constructive dialogue between school administrators, students, and parents to foster a more inclusive and tolerant learning environment.

#Hope4SA Servant Leader John Mathuhle attended the campus and stands in solidarity with Shaun in support of him as the disciplinary hearing proceeds today.

The Hope Party is committed to championing the rights of individuals to express their views freely and without fear and is in support of Biblical Values. As a nation, we must embrace and protect the democratic values that make our society strong, vibrant, and resilient.
