After nearly a decade since his last release, Piet Smit’s latest single, “Way Above the Sky,” has finally arrived! Born on Christmas morning 1956 in Lydenburg South Africa. Piet’s public involvement in music began in the late 1970s. Since fully committing to a Gospel singing ministry in May 1994, Piet has released over 30 albums, featuring both English and Dutch productions.
Five of his albums have achieved gold status, with his second solo album, Heer U maak my nuut (Lord You Renew Me), reaching platinum status in 1999.
All of his songs are inspired by his personal experiences and his relationship with the Lord Jesus. His aim is to use his talent to glorify God.
His sound was originally rooted in the ‘Country & Folk’ ballad styles of the ’70s, but over the past three decades, his music has evolved to incorporate various genres, including vibrant traditional African rhythms, contemporary sounds, and even light operatic elements.
Piet Smit has ministered in churches and performed in nearly every city and town across South Africa and its neighbouring countries. He has also toured and performed in England, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Canada, and the USA. Since 2004, Piet has visited the Netherlands and Belgium annually, where he has become a household name.
Piet has been married to his wife, Elmarie, since April 1978, and they currently reside in Pretoria, South Africa. They have two sons – Johan and Leon.
