What Is Happening?
The 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) is currently underway (6-18 November) in Egypt. COP is a decision-making forum of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) – the main aim is to combat “dangerous human interference with the climate system”. This month, COP27 starts under the shadow of a UN Environment Programme report which states that, “there is no credible pathway to prevent the average temperature from rising by more than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels”.

Why Is This Important?
When it comes to the environment and godly stewardship, there are some helpful principles and Scriptures to remember. As Christians, we recognise Christ’s sustaining work over all creation, bearing in mind that He holds all things together (Col 1:17), including our natural environment. We are called to work with Him who sustains ‘all things’, by living in the most environmentally sustainable manner we can; and we work to care for creation (Gen 2:15) by protecting and restoring our natural environment.

Pray:
• for wisdom for world leaders as they consider sustainable solutions to the crises God’s creation faces
• for godly change to be birthed through these discussions
• for believers to continue witnessing to the world around them by the way they steward God’s creation
