There is a remnant arising in all the nations around the world. The Word of God says in 1 Kings 19:18: “Nevertheless, I have reserved seven thousand in Israel – all whose knees have not bowed to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him.” In this scripture, God is telling Elijah that He has set apart a remnant for Himself, which He will use for His purpose and glory.

What sets the remnant apart?
The remnant carry a particular type of DNA. They have been set apart and consecrated by God. They have not been deceived by the counterfeit, nor have they embraced the false. They refuse to compromise or bow down to idolatry and idolatrous practices.

Daniel: a model of a remnant life
Daniel exhibited the characteristics of a true remnant. He served as a consultant and advisor to multiple Babylonian governments. As a remnant body of believers, this is our time to rise to the responsibility of advising government as the New Testament kings and priests mentioned in the book of Revelation 1:5-6. The remnant are those who understand that, like Daniel, we are called to rule with God in the affairs of men. In this season, a remnant is rising to function like Daniel as political prophets, helping shape laws that will guide nations according to God’s direction.

Fearless in the fire
Daniel and the other Hebrew boys were not afraid of the fire. In Daniel 3:22, it says, “Therefore, because the king’s command was urgent and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego.” We cannot function as a remnant if we fear the “fire”. To function effectively as a remnant, we must understand that God is an all-consuming fire and that the Holy Spirit fire we carry will extinguish and counter any strange fire we encounter.

Shaping culture without compromise
God is looking for a remnant that understands, like Daniel, they must not bow to idolatry. They are the thermostats, not thermometers. They do not just measure the “temperature”, but influence and change it. They are not shaped by Babylon and worldly standards, but are called to bring about change. Their thinking and mindset must be conformed to the Kingdom, not to the world (Rom 12:2).

Seated at the table without defilement
In Daniel 1:8, the scripture says Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the royal food and wine.

The remnant’s place in Babylon
Daniel’s remnant does not avoid Babylon. They understand their calling is to affect and impact Babylon, and that cannot be done from the outside. The Church and the body of Christ can no longer afford to distance themselves from Babylon. We need to participate in critical societal matters. The Daniel remnant knows they are salt, not meat. It is the responsibility of the salt to influence, flavour, and remove corruption from the meat, not the other way around. The challenge for the Body of Christ is determining how to impact present-day Babylon without partaking of the king’s food and delicacies, which may look delicious and tantalising, but are defiled.

Facing the challenge of Babylon’s influence
The question facing the Body of Christ today is: How do we become leaders, parliamentarians, and politicians who are not influenced by the seemingly delicious but unrighteous delicacies of Babylon? How do we ensure that we are not shaped by Babylonian and worldly structures and systems? How do we avoid behaving unrighteously like the Chaldeans?

Remnants who bring impact and solutions
Daniel understood that being in the palace was not for personal gain or aggrandisement, but for Kingdom impact and influence. The name Daniel is Hebrew, meaning “Jehovah is my Judge”. Daniel’s remnant knows how to do business and occupy. They do not seek positions for salaries, fame, or relevance. They stand for righteousness and represent Jehovah El Mishpat, the God of righteousness and justice, at all times (Psa 97:2).

Called to serve: skilled and ready
In Daniel 1:4, the Word of God describes the Daniel remnant as those who are competent to serve in the king’s palace. This remnant must be skilled, have aptitude, and be well-informed and quick to understand important issues. They must be well-qualified to serve in the palace. While the astrologers were unable to bring solutions to the king, Daniel was able to interpret dreams. Daniel 2:28 says he knew the God who reveals secrets and understood mysteries.

The remnant moves in unity
When God spoke to Elijah to remind him of the remnant, Elijah was in a cave of isolation. Had Elijah found and joined the other 7000 whom God had set apart, he would not have wallowed in self-pity in the cave. In this season, God is calling His remnant Daniels from all over the globe to come together in unity and stand for righteousness.
