If the State succeeds, we will lose any meaningful right to religious freedom!
In this important segment from the FOR SA Virtual Roadshow, we explore the controversial proposals by the CRL Rights Commission to impose state regulation on religion in South Africa.
Drawing from both local and international examples, the segment highlights the threats such regulation poses to religious freedom, democracy, and constitutional rights.
Led by Ms Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva, the Commission’s plan includes passing legislation to license religious practitioners and forming peer review committees backed by State power to discipline religious leaders of all faiths.
While the CRL cites real abuses in some fringe religious groups, this video argues that existing laws are sufficient and that state interference risks undermining the vital moral and social role of faith communities.
