Over the past few years, the Christian community – along with members of other faiths – have fought valiantly against a plan by the South African Department of Basic Education (DBE) to sexualise children from an early age. The DBE’s acceptance of $25 million (almost half a billion rand) incentivised them to implement this diabolical plan to sexualise children through the rollout of the UNESCO-sponsored comprehensive sexual education (CSE) curriculum. Part of the CSE rollout includes implementing guidelines for the sexual orientation of children.
Unisex toilets and changing rooms
The DBE has developed draft guidelines for the socio-educational inclusion of “diverse sexual orientation, gender identity, expression, and sex characteristics” in schools. The section on bathrooms and change facilities provides for the implementation of unisex toilets and changing rooms. It says:
• “Schools should provide non-gender specific toilets and change rooms with individual stalls or cubicles that can provide privacy for all users. The key considerations apply to all learners: safety, dignity, and privacy. Under no circumstances shall a learner be required to use a single-user facility because they identify with a non-heteronormative sexual orientation, are transgender, or are gender non-conforming.”
• “Facilities should be labelled sensitively and appropriately.”
• “Schools should formulate a policy for toilets, as well as change rooms, so that there is clarity on engaging with these facilities. Learners must be allowed to self-identify and where there is a clear policy to this effect it makes it easier for learners to feel enabled to access a toilet or use a change room of their choice.”
The rationale given for the guidelines
The DBE alleges that there are children who wish to identify as being transgender who are being bullied, which justifies the rollout of their guidelines on unisex toilets. Bullying has been around for decades; it is an unfortunate global phenomenon that is prevalent in schools everywhere. I remember being bullied as the only black child at Brook Lane primary school in Ottawa, Canada, in the early 1960s. There have always been bullies and there will always be bullies for varying reasons. Bullying, therefore, must be addressed comprehensively for all children and not addressed specifically for one group or “sector” of the child population.
Molestation of vulnerable children
South Africa is listed in the top three nations in the world with the highest rape statistics. In 2010, South Africa had the highest rate of rape in the world at 132,4 incidents per 100 000 people. Over the past few years, there has been a marked increase in the number of children who have been raped in bathrooms. With that in mind, bathrooms must be secured and made as safe as possible to ensure that our children are safe. What are the chances of opening the door for potential child molesters who can take advantage of children in toilets under the guise of being ‘transgender’? This is a very real possibility. We say NO to unisex toilets in schools and in any part of the nation! #NoToUnisexToilets #KeNako
