The American series, ‘The Chosen’, that began on digital platforms and has accumulated more than 600 million viewers worldwide, will return on April 10, 2025 in theaters.
The story that addresses the life of Jesus, the historical character influential in various cultures, has been well received not only in the United States (the place of origin), even in countries such as South Africa, Algeria India, Japan, South Korea and China.
Previously, four seasons were released that portray in a human way the life of Jesus and the people around him, but in the fifth installment entitled ‘The Last Supper’ an approximation of what the last days of Jesus were like will be shown and not only that, significant moments that will mark his followers will also be exposed, since his presence in Jerusalem represents a threat to the religious leaders of that region and to the Romans who had subjugated the area.
According to the press release from 5&2 Studios (the production company), the series will premiere in the United States on March 27, 2025 and will be distributed in that country, as well as in Canada by Fathom. At a global level, the distributor responsible will be Trafalgar, with plans to screen the material in theaters in India, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, the Philippines, among others; which will happen on April 10.
The web show will be released in three parts, or in other words, episode 1 and 2 will form the first screening, while the second will consist of episodes 3, 4 and 5; finally, the third screening will composed with episodes 6, 7 and 8.
On November 21 (United States time), the production published through social networks the poster of the fifth installment, which contains the image of Jesus (played by Jonathan Roumie) with his back turned and with a whip in his hand, a fact that represents the scene of his entry into the Jerusalem’s temple. This detail surprised fans and caught the attention of other sectors that are not familiar with the subject.
Formally, the first trailer for ‘The Last Supper’ was released on YouTube on November 25 and in this there are scenes where the characters seem distressed and worried, even perplexed. It has been mentioned on previous occasions that the new material would show exciting moments, but also heartbreaking ones that would be significant for later events.
“I’m possibly more excited to bring Season 5 to the world than any other season we’ve done,” said Dallas Jenkins, creator and executive producer. “Unfortunately, it’s not coming until March, but that’s because it’s such a huge season and requires a ton of work. But I’m so thrilled to show this first glimpse of it with the poster and the teaser and for our fans […]”.
It is expected that during the course of the year, new episodes will be available for free viewing on the website (https://watch.thechosen.tv/#carousels) either dubbed into the desired language or with subtitles, as has been done in past years, so that the public can enjoy the seasons.
