Arlene and I depart for Bloemfontein 6 – 8 Oct to participate in the Time2Rise (T2R) initiative. T2R brings together some of the country’s most engaged civil-society leaders labouring to activate and mobilise a groundswell of citizen-activists for real change. As the 2024 General Elections loom, there is much transpiring behind the scenes to bring positive change in South Africa.
The Independent Candidates Association (ICA) is still waiting for the Constitutional Court ruling on its 28/29 August case challenging the constitutionality of the “Electoral Amendment Act.” The Constitutional Court judgement in this matter may radically alter SA’s electoral landscape.
Significantly, real sustainable change for South Africa is not merely a wish – but a matter of survival. The country is failing in almost every sector with the economy teetering on the brink of collapse as the ANC regime lurches from one crisis to the next – incapable of fixing its own mess.
The 2023 “Global Organised Crime Index” (GOCI) indicates South Africa now ranks 7th in the world out of 193 countries and third in Africa for mafia-style criminal networks and organised crime syndicates. In 2022, the NPA cautioned that with the weakening of the criminal justice system in the state capture era, South Africa had become a bonanza for organised criminals and a broad range of illicit actors. Rampant ANC corruption has transformed SA into a mafia state.
The farcical impeachment trial of the now fired Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane revealed a litany of staggering corruption and incompetence by a woman primarily selected by the ANC. Mkhwebane’s contentious tenure as Public Protector is a searing indictment of ANC misgovernance including its mindless cadre deployment policy that has crippled the country.
Dudu Myeni, another corrupt ANC deployee appeared in court recently on corruption charges. Myeni was appointed SAA chairperson by Jacob Zuma and proceeded to run the once “best airline in Africa” into the ground. It reportedly costs taxpayers R50 billion to fix Myeni’s mess.
The ailing state-owned transport company, Transnet is losing billions – undermining the country’s rail network – vital for the economy. Transnet’s ANC appointed CEO and CFO recently resigned under a cloud of controversy leaving the entity rudderless. Apparently, the resignations are linked to a SIU investigation regarding a dodgy R33.8 million contract for disposable straws.
Despite the SABC receiving a bailout of R3,2 billion of taxpayer funds in 2021, its annual 2022/23 report revealed a R1.13 billion loss. State-owned enterprises are haemorrhaging hundreds of billions of taxpayer funds as a result of rampant corruption and gross incompetence. Eskom, SAA, SABC, Transnet, Prasa, Denel, etc are all the tragic victims of rampant ANC corruption.
Sadly, however, the relentless corruption and maladministration by the ANC regime has taken its toll not only on the economy but also the poor and vulnerable. Poverty under ANC misgovernance has deepened. As a result, acute malnutrition requiring hospitalisation is escalating in SA. High unemployment and teenage pregnancies are contributing factors.
The ANC regime’s bankrupt ideology driven policies has severely diminished the quality of education in South Africa. According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report (2019), SA ranks 137th out of 141 countries in the quality of its primary education.
Now business executives are stepping in to help rescue education from its downward spiral.
And while Health Minister, Joe Phaahla connives with the WHO to control the freedoms of SA citizens, the Gauteng High Court had to compel him to act on a report of widespread fraud in the ailing health sector. Apparently, Mr. Phaalha attempted to conceal the fraud in his department.
Tragically, the ANC regime has made public service positions so lucrative for its cadres, they are killing each other for a councillor’s post. News24 reports, “more than 150 politicians have been shot dead in KZN province alone – mostly over power, influence and money – since 2011.
However, despite the destruction, murder and mayhem sowed by the ANC regime, it is tone deaf to the sufferings of its own people. The ANC has only one agenda and that is to remain in power. Its primary objective is self-enrichment at the expense of the poor, marginalised and suffering.
That is why every God-fearing citizen must pray for God’s intervention to rid the nation of this vile brood of vipers masquerading as a government. We must Pray, Speak and Act for change in SA not only for ourselves but for the millions of vulnerable citizens who can’t speak for themselves.
