After more than a decade, Christian music is making headlines on mainstream charts once again.
Two faith-centred songs have made it onto the Billboard Hot 100 – a chart typically dominated by mainstream pop and hip-hop artists. This marks a significant milestone, as it’s the first time in 11 years that Christian tracks have appeared on the chart in this way.
Brandon Lake’s Hard Fought Hallelujah, featuring Jelly Roll, currently holds the No. 44 position after peaking at No. 40. Meanwhile, Forrest Frank’s Your Way’s Better has climbed to No. 62, gaining momentum after sitting at No. 72 the previous week.
According to Billboard’s analysis, while Christian music has occasionally appeared on the Hot 100, such instances have often been linked to holiday songs or genre-crossing artists like Kanye West. When those exceptions are set aside, only a small number of overtly Christian tracks have charted independently – making this recent development particularly noteworthy.
Social media, especially platforms like TikTok, has played a pivotal role in the success of both Lake and Frank. Their music has resonated with a wide audience, helping them reach listeners far beyond the traditional Christian music space.
Brandon Lake, a familiar name in Christian worship circles, has seen considerable success in recent years. Since 2019, he has landed 42 songs on the Hot Christian Songs chart. Nine of those have reached the Top 10, with six claiming the No. 1 spot. His collaboration with Jelly Roll, Hard Fought Hallelujah, has now spent more than 20 weeks at the top of the Christian chart.
Originally released as a solo project in November 2024, Lake later invited Jelly Roll to join him on Hard Fought Hallelujah, creating a powerful blend of worship and testimony that continues to touch hearts across the country.
