Why do believers engage in missionary work? This question formed the central theme of the Far East Broadcasting Association’s (FEBA’s) testimony meeting, held on Saturday 19 October at the DRC Bellville-Riebeeck in Bellville, Cape Town.

Seventy-five attendees, many of them new to FEBA, gathered in the church hall to hear FEBA’s national director, Dr Jurie Vermeulen, talk about FEBA’s work and why they do it. The audience represented a variety of places – from Durbanville to Khayelitsha to Vredendal – as well as a wide range of ages, with the youngest being in their 30s and the oldest 92!

Armed with powerful testimonies from all over the world, Dr Vermeulen discussed the three factors that drive evangelism: the Great Commission as found in Matthew 28: 19-20; the great need that exists in the world; and God’s unquantifiable, unconditional love. At the end of the talk, audience members seized the opportunity to ask questions and engaged in a lively discussion about FEBA’s work.

“Thank you, FEBA,” one attendee said afterward. “It was a wonderful experience! The friends I brought felt so privileged.” Another said, “Thank you so much for always inviting me. The people I brought got a lot [out of the event], as did I.”

Once the discussion wrapped up, people gathered in small groups to pray for various aspects of FEBA’s work, especially the new station being planned in Sudan. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed tea and refreshments, while making donations for radios to be distributed, studying FEBA’s Radius magazine, and conversing with FEBA’s staff.

One audience member said, “Thank you for the invitation. I never knew how FEBA Radio reaches out to bring the Good News to the nations. It is so wonderful [to hear] how many people come to Christ. I hope to see you again at the next one!”
