A passion for storytelling and the power of words. That was all Joana, a 38-year-old former Muslim, had left after her husband died in battle against jihadists in Cabo Delgado last year. His relatives claimed all his property and possessions, leaving his widow with nothing.
One day, Joana heard a biblical radio drama on FEBA’s Fountain of Truth (FOT) Radio in Niassa Province that sparked her interest in Jesus. She joined a training program offered by the widows of FOT Radio to learn the art of using Bible stories to create, produce, and present radio dramas for widows and young people. As Joana learned about sound, scriptwriting, and creative storytelling, she encountered more stories of Jesus and the hope and love that He offers. Eventually, she surrendered her life to Jesus Christ.
Now, she is actively involved in creating radio dramas for others like her, and says, “It has been a blessing to combine my passion for storytelling with my newfound faith, and I now produce biblical dramas aimed at sharing the message of hope, redemption, and love to many more listeners.”
The widows of FOT Radio and women from the Makhuwa tribe, all former Muslims, recently joined hands to teach women from Zambezia and Sofala to create their own radio dramas. Disabled listeners also participate in training.
In addition to being aired on four of FEBA Mozambique’s stations in Niassa and Zambezia, the programs are also sent to Malawi in two languages, Makhuwa and Yao.
