The Government of National Unity (GNU) faces its toughest test yet as it again attempts to pass the Budget on 12 March. There is still no agreement between the ANC and DA on where it will find the R58 billion budget shortfall. The ANC insists on a VAT hike and the DA demands cuts in state expenditure. Predictably, the ANC does not support spending cuts.
Several economists have suggested there is ample room to cut government expenditure. The bloated cabinet is a good place to start. The ANC bailed out failing State Owned Enterprises (SOE’s) at a cost of R520 billion to the taxpayer. SOE’s must be privatised.
Incredibly, while the ANC demands tax increases on the already overburdened taxpayer, the Auditor General’s “Consolidated General Report on National and Provincial Audit Outcomes for 2023/24” reveal the ANC wasted a staggering R406 billion of taxpayer money on fruitless and wasteful expenditure – as a result of gross mismanagement.
A YouTube video highlights the details in the Auditor General’s Report revealing how the ANC looted R406 billion from the treasury over the past five years. The ANC criminal enterprise is now demanding the taxpayer foot the bill for its brazen looting spree.
Rampant ANC corruption, gross mismanagement of state resources and destructive policies has set SA on a course toward economic disaster. The warnings within SA and from abroad are growing louder and more urgent. But these warnings are being ignored.
The World Bank issued a warning. It asserts, “robust economic recovery, shared across all sectors of society, can be achieved in the immediate future through the implementation of a series of policy actions in four priority areas.” SA’s real GDP per capita in 2023 was less than it was in 2007. In other words, the SA economy is regressing rather than growing.
The World Bank’s proposed 4 policy actions that will drive inclusive growth are; (1) improving the efficiency of public spending (what economists and the DA are proposing). (2) Delivering high quality and affordable infrastructure services. (3) Making cities engines of inclusive growth. And (4) Dynamizing private sector growth – to enhance job creation.
The two biggest barriers to economic growth are “cumbersome regulatory rules” and “Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) laws.” SA’s GDP growth was less than 1 percent over the last decade ensuring its unemployment rate is among the highest in the world.
What SA desperately needs is a US style, Department of Government Efficiency. We need an independent forensic audit of all government expenditure to eliminate fraud, waste and abuse of taxpayers money. South Africa will probably save hundreds of billions by effectively ending state facilitated corruption. Economic turnaround will then be possible.
Despite President Cyril Ramaphosa’s promise of a “New Dawn” in 2018 – following the 9 years of State Capture under his predecessor, Jacob Zuma – ANC facilitated tender fraud, theft, money laundering and racketeering has actually escalated not declined as promised.
Electricity Minister, Ramakgopa blamed “people performance” for the return of blackouts. This is code for inept ANC cadres running the power utility into the ground. SA consumers will have to pay for this as well. NERSA approved a 12,7 percent electricity increase – expected to double every year – to subsidise ANC corruption and mismanagement.
SA’s State Owned Enterprises lie in ruin, bankrupted by the ANC’s cadre deployment policies. But they appear to have learned nothing from it. Transport Minister, Barbara Creecy appointed the worst performing candidate to head up the ailing national airline in clear defiance of the SAA Board’s recommendations. Again, ANC first, SA citizens last.
In addition, the ANC’s “Russian Roulette” foreign policy threatens South Africa’s economic survival. Ramaphosa attacked US president, Donald Trump and vowed to arrest Israeli, Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu in a Foreign Policy article which is certain to provoke the Trump administration and further strain US – SA trade and diplomatic relations.
Ramaphosa cites “Israel’s violation of human rights, sovereign equality and prohibition of genocide laws.” However, SA aided Sudanese president, Omar Al-Bashir’s escape from justice in 2015. Al-Bashir was convicted for genocide and war crimes by the International Criminal Court (ICC). The ANC regime refused to arrest him and helped him escape.
The ANC is close allies of totalitarian regimes like China, Russia, Iran and Cuba. These states brutally violate the human rights of its citizens. The ANC has ties with terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah who perpetrate barbaric acts of violence against innocent civilians. Despite this, the ANC portrays itself as a global champion of morality.
Rumours persists that Iran bribed a bankrupt ANC to prosecute Israel at the ICJ. The ANC received a delegation from Iran in what will be viewed as a clear provocation to the US – the largest economy in the world and SA’s second largest trading partner. The US already cancelled all aid to SA and is expected to eject it from the beneficial AGOA trade pact.
President Ramaphosa appears detached from reality and increasingly delusional. He often makes promises he cannot possibly fulfil in global forums like the WEF and G20. Ramaphosa appears to be burnishing his “world leader” credentials while failing at home.
The president asked the corrupt and grossly incompetent ANC leaders in the collapsing Gauteng province to “make our country presentable” for the G20 meeting in Johannesburg. Ramaphosa actually prioritized G20 delegates over the ratepayers of the City of JHB.
Katlego Bernice Moagi’s “Citizen Concerned” video expertly exposes Ramaphosa’s tone deaf and hypocritical presidency – “make me look good at the G20 summit.”
The chorus of voices warning South Africa to make urgent and fundamental changes to its economic and foreign policies are growing in intensity and numbers. We are running out of time. The country can no longer sustain the rampant levels of theft, fraud and abuse the ANC and its cronies have subjected South Africa’s citizens to. Something has to give.
Barely a week passes without a new report emerging of fraud that siphons billions from state coffers. Poverty is deepening, unemployment is rising, crime is soaring and welfare budgets are ballooning. We must pray fervently, speak up and act for decisive change now!
