YoungHoon Kim, the South Korean scientist recognised as having the world’s highest IQ, has publicly declared his Christian faith in a social media post that’s gone viral.

The 30-year-old researcher, whose IQ has been independently measured at 276, stated: “Jesus Christ is God, the way and the truth and the life.”

Kim’s statement has drawn attention globally, not only because of his intellect—his IQ reportedly surpasses that of Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking—but also because of the clarity and boldness of his belief. Many have expressed surprise at his straightforward declaration of faith in an age where belief in God is often seen as incompatible with scientific brilliance.

A former atheist, Kim has previously spoken about his journey toward Christianity, saying that he began to seriously explore questions about life’s purpose, morality and truth while studying advanced mathematics and cosmology. Over time, he became convinced that science alone could not offer the answers he was searching for.

Speaking to followers online, he shared that the more he studied the universe, the more convinced he became that it was created by an intelligent being. “That intelligence is Jesus Christ,” he said.

His comments have sparked conversation across social media, with some praising his conviction and others questioning how someone so intelligent could embrace religious belief. For many Christians, however, Kim’s statement is a reminder that faith and reason are not mutually exclusive.

From a South African point of view, Kim’s story is a valuable encouragement to Christians who may feel marginalised in academic or scientific spaces. His open profession of faith serves as a reminder that belief in Jesus is not based on emotion or ignorance, but can stand up to scrutiny—and be embraced by the brightest minds in the world.
