“I lay in the hospital room, bracing myself for one of the most painful procedures you can possibly undergo – a bone marrow biopsy,” Cornelia de Bruto recalls. “I did not tell anyone about the doctor’s suspicions, not even my children. I did not want them to worry unnecessarily. So, it was just Jesus and me. However, in our chats in the early hours of the morning, He assured me of His love and that He had not abandoned me, nor would He leave me alone at this hour. I experienced being sheltered under my Father’s wings.

Both hospitalised
Cornelia and her husband, Hendrik, both ended up in hospital with COVID in 2021, one day apart. “We were able to see each other for a few more days in the COVID ward, but then Hendrik had to be moved to the intensive care unit because his condition had deteriorated badly. I was seriously ill too and struggled to breathe because my lungs were damaged.”

A hidden disease
It was during this time when doctors had to regularly draw blood to measure Cornelia’s infection levels that one very observant doctor noticed a serious abnormality with Cornelia’s blood. She was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL). It was discovered at an incredibly early stage, which was the second miracle…
A dark time
“It was a very dark time, my lungs were damaged, I was diagnosed with CLL, and I went home with an oxygen machine. Unfortunately, my husband also went home shortly afterwards – not to me, but to our Father. However, the Lord gave me Psalm 139:5. The Passion Translation puts it so beautifully: “You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way, and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past,” she testifies.
Grateful for tablets without side effects
Back home, she immediately started taking her Mega Oxygen tablets again and, slowly but surely, Cornelia was able to wean herself off the oxygen machine. At first, she got out of breath very quickly when she walked, and she still had to use a wheelchair.

I also do not have all the other side effects that come with this type of leukaemia. I sleep well, eat well, and have energy.”
‘The Lord still has work for me to do!’
“I thank the Lord for taking care of me. He promised me in the hospital that He would be my husband and go before me. Thanks to the Lord’s goodness and with the help of Mega Oxygen, I still have a good quality of life. Even though my lungs have suffered damage, I am not dependent on an oxygen machine, and I can live my life to the fullest, because the fact that I am still here means that the Lord still has work for me to do!”
