For one family, it was a food parcel. For someone else, a loaf of bread when there was little food in the house. And for a mother who had to bury her son, it was someone saying: “We see you. You don’t have to go through this alone.” Every day, we drive past people whose stories we do not know. A mother who does not know how she will put food on the table this month. A child carrying a worry far too heavy for little shoulders. Someone who smiles when you greet them, but behind that smile carries a loss you know nothing about.

Make God’s Word visible in practical ways
It is easy to feel overwhelmed by the need around us. What can one person possibly do? Waves Foundation believes the answer is: more than you think. Waves Foundation is an initiative of Radio Tygerberg 104FM that grew out of a simple dream, to proclaim God’s love not only in words, but to make it visible in practical ways. In its first month, ordinary people already showed what is possible. With the support of Wave Makers, 12 families received enough groceries for a month, and 400 loaves of bread were distributed to people in need. But the most beautiful part of the story cannot always be counted.
One of the people Waves was able to help was a mother whose son had been murdered. In the midst of her trauma and loss, Waves was able to arrange trauma counselling for her.
“We could not take away her loss, but we could come alongside her,” says Benescke Janse van Rensburg from Waves. “Sometimes that is where change begins, when someone discovers in a difficult moment: We see you. God sees you. You are not alone.”

When small waves come together
Waves wants to be there wherever people need help and hope, through food assistance, school and community outreaches, and spontaneous acts of kindness. Behind this work is the #wavemakersclub. From R100 per month, anyone can become a Wave Maker. Members receive daily WhatsApp devotionals and monthly feedback on what their contributions are helping to make possible. They also receive first access to tickets for selected Radio Tygerberg events such as TygerRun and Sisters, as well as opportunities to get involved in Waves outreaches. But perhaps the greatest privilege is being able to look back at a story at the end of the month and say: I helped make that possible.

Your contribution changes lives
You may not have handed over the food parcel yourself or distributed the bread. You may never have met the mother who received counselling. But your small wave reached her. Because you do not have to change the whole world. You can simply help change someone else’s. Ordinary people. Extraordinary change.
