Barnabas Aid project partners in Ethiopia have printed and distributed 27,000 urgently needed Oromo language Bibles.
This printing and distribution represents the first phase of a project, part-funded by Barnabas, to publish 100,000 Bibles in Oromo.
Oromo is the second-most widely spoken language in Ethiopia, but only about a million Oromo Bibles have ever been printed – less than one Bible for every 20 Oromo Christians – and these are in an old translation which people today find very difficult to read.
The Church is growing fast amongst the Oromo ethnic group, and there is great hunger for the life-changing Word of God – especially as Ethiopia faces severe challenges of drought, hunger and conflict.
Each Bible costs approximately £4.80 ($5.80; €5.70) to print.
“People are so happy,” said our project partner after the Bibles were distributed. A target has been set of printing and distributing another 23,000 Bibles by the end of 2023, taking the project half-way to its planned total of 100,000 Bibles.
Give thanks for the successful distribution of Bibles in Ethiopia. Pray that the new translation into Oromo will be a source of spiritual nourishment and guidance for the Lord’s people, especially as they suffer from poverty, hunger and ongoing conflict.
