Personal evangelism is an act of love, and love desires what God wants – that none in our sphere of influence should perish. God’s desire must surely become our desire as we experience and grow in our knowledge of Him. We so enjoy the daily benefits and protection of our Saviour. This comfort alone should compel us to share the Gospel with those around us, especially our loved ones.
The blessings of life
Security, help, wisdom, knowledge, guidance, and encouragement are all wonderful blessings. How can we keep this to ourselves? “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” (Matt 12:34). This is what we ought to be talking about every day. Then it will easily flow into how others, too, can have this same relationship with the Lord. Never underestimate the power and influence of personal testimonies. They are living proof of the Lord’s real, everyday work and presence in our lives.
Don’t be discouraged
Of course, there may be times when our stories are trivialised or dismissed. This is why it is important to record and prepare these testimonies in advance, so that they are short, to the point, and shared in a simple, matter-of-fact way. Even if they are occasionally dismissed, continue to share. These conversations have eternal value, and one day it will be shown to you what powerful seeds you were sowing.
A record of testimonies
I have a journal in which I record my daily testimonies. It reminds me of every time the Lord acts, answers, or blesses me. It is an incredible reminder when I look back and read through them. It strengthens my faith and stirs me to want to tell others about Jesus. It will do the same for you.
We should always share our testimony
Not a week should go by without us sharing one testimony or another, as we certainly do get opportunities. Our daily conversations should be peppered with these faith testimonies, because God is working in our lives daily. All it takes is for us to become actively aware and disciplined. Jot these incidents down every week, and then make a commitment to the Lord to share them with others. The Holy Spirit will prompt you if you ask Him and commit to making yourself available to Him. Desire to become a vessel of honour.
Opportunities every day
Through the sharing of these testimonies, others can begin to see how they, too, can experience the Lord. It then becomes easier to share the Gospel. When you are excited and grateful for your salvation, it becomes obvious and infectious. We are given opportunities every day. We simply need to recognise them and learn to speak out. I hope this advice helps you to lead lost loved ones and others to the Lord. In the process, you will also store up heavenly rewards. The lasting fruit of a life lived for Christ includes the souls of those you have helped lead to Jesus. “Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story, those He redeemed from the hand of the foe” (Psa 107:2).
