Do you ever sit in a church, hear a great message, see people respond to the preacher’s altar call and hear them pray the sinner’s prayer, only to see the majority of them disappear with the crowd afterwards, never having spoken to anyone? Our role as the church is to make disciples of people, and so while I am in favour of altar calls, I believe that they can be used much better to achieve our disciple-making purpose. Evangelism and early discipleship need to be seen as a unified pursuit, and I believe this understanding can help us do our Gospel preaching far more fruitfully. This is why I started Barleyfield, an evangelism and early discipleship ministry. We work hand-in-hand with local churches to help you grow through evangelism, but to do so in a way that also ensures the effective early discipleship of your converts.
Altar calls are great, but I believe that they can be used much better.
Do you want to see more lives changed?
Pastors, elders, leaders (and readers who feel encouraged to share this with your pastor), do you want to see more people come to the Lord through your ministry? Would you like to revitalise evangelism in your church,
AND achieve a better early discipleship strategy for people who do respond to the Gospel? Do you feel like your church may be somewhat stagnant? Or that you could be doing more to reach lost people within your community in such a way that they are quickly discipled and become committed, growing members of your local church?
Problems that churches face
One of the biggest problems that many churches face – when it comes to evangelism and early discipleship – is not knowing how to mobilise their congregation for evangelism AND how to disciple new converts to maturity in the early stages of their Christian walk.
At Barleyfield, we love the Lord, we love the local church, and we love the Gospel. We exist to help you (local church leaders) to implement a holistic evangelism and early discipleship strategy into your church. We’ll help you mobilise your entire church to reach the people in their spheres of influence. And then (using a set of world class resources) we’ll help you put a plan together which is not only Biblical, but will be effective for shepherding responders into a discipleship journey.
Our mission is to put a Biblical strategy and world class tools in your hands.
Here are a couple of things that will happen:
1. Your church will grow and you will baptise many more members into membership.
2. You will regularly launch new home groups and cell groups in the life of your church by using video-based content that quickly establishes new believers in the Scriptures.
3. You will begin standing up on a Sunday with a confidence and expectancy in your heart that people will not only respond to the Gospel today, but that from there they will seamlessly be shepherded into a Biblical and effective discipleship journey within the life of your local church.
Now, if that all sounds good, can I encourage you with the words of Jesus:
“Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life,” – John 4:35-36. Our mission is to put a Biblical strategy and world class tools in your hands, so that you in your local church can begin to “reap,” “receive wages,” and “gather fruit for eternal life.”
We want to help you
We believe that the strategic process you use to help unbelievers get saved and become established in the faith needs to be clear, compelling, and seamless within the life of your church. That requires an intelligent strategy. That’s what we help you implement.
