A FEBA Ukraine listener, Oksana, recently phoned the team’s helpline with the following story: “I’m worried about my husband – he’s at the frontlines. We had a big fight right before he left, and now he’s not responding to any of my messages or calls. I’m so scared. I know he just may not be able to respond, but I need to know he’s okay.”

During the past three years, stories like this have become more common. War is taking its toll on the women of Ukraine, who must keep households and businesses running in the men’s absence, while constantly worrying about safety – that of their partners, fathers, children, and their own.

This is why FEBA Ukraine launched its Embrace program in 2024. The faith-based program includes not only radio and online broadcasts but also daily prayer meetings at the studio in Kyiv, counselling, and in-person gatherings for women and girls who have suffered loss, displacement, and other forms of trauma.

Inna and Emma, who started the program, travel all over Ukraine to host meetings and share God’s love with tired, scared, and grieving women. Each attendee receives a gift pack with a Bible, Christian literature, and beauty and skincare products as a treat for those who take care of others at the cost of looking after themselves.

The gatherings have inspired women to build communities around God’s Word. Christina, who lives in Zaporizhzhia – a very vulnerable area, being close to Europe’s largest nuclear power plant – attended an Embrace gathering in her city. Though initially very cautious, she gradually started participating in the conversation and came to love the Lord based on what she learned. Afterwards, she began organising more meetings in other parts of the city.

Around 400 women participated in meetings across Ukraine in 2024.
