What is it that makes one climb out of a dark place in one’s life? What is it that drives us to go forward through the darkest times? Is it fear? Is it determination? Is it faith in God? For Miskyah Toth, the answer lies in her unwavering faith in God and her deep-seated belief in His plan for her life.

Bumpy start of the journey
Born and raised in a typical South African family, Miskyah was initially sheltered from the many challenges life can present. However, upon reaching adulthood, she was confronted with difficult decisions, including the choice to leave an abusive marriage and embrace life as a single mother. Often, she found herself in dark and challenging times, forced to make significant decisions, not only for herself but also for her two young children. It is true that when we are down, we often face a barrage of additional challenges. Yet, it is crucial to reach a point where we can say “No more” and begin the journey of picking ourselves up and starting anew.

Spiritual strength
The owner and CEO of BDCS, a successful staff outsourcing company, Miskyah is no stranger to adversity. Her journey is a testament to the power of the faith and perseverance of the human spirit. Her autobiography, Iron in Silk, not only details her professional achievements, but also highlights the spiritual strength that has guided her through life’s challenges.

Significant growth under leadership
After 30 years in the industry, just as the world shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Miskyah acquired a new division to BDCS, a staffing company that has grown from strength to strength under her leadership. It was a bold move, fuelled by a strong conviction that God was leading her on this path. Her faith gave her the courage to take risks and the resilience to overcome setbacks. With great joy, she saw more than 500% growth during the past years in her organisation during the most challenging economic times.

Solace and strength
Significant personal challenges have marked Miskyah’s life. She has faced and overcome numerous obstacles, always finding solace and strength in her faith. Her trust in God’s plan has been a beacon of hope, illuminating her path even in the darkest times. This spiritual fortitude has not only helped her build a thriving business, but has also been a source of inspiration to many women.

All credit and honour to God
Raising two children as a single mother, Miskyah tells her story in detail in Iron in Silk – one of overcoming tremendous personal and professional challenges. Her recognition as a finalist in the Standard Bank Woman of the Year Awards in 2023 is a testament to her hard work and dedication. In 2024, she received various international awards, including the prestigious MAE Markets award for Best Female Coach for Africa, and she was featured in the international magazine, CIO Views as one of the Top Ten Women in Business in Africa. Yet, she humbly credits her achievements to God’s grace and the support of her faith community.

The importance of faith
In her public speaking and writings, Miskyah frequently emphasises the importance of faith and resilience in business and all aspects of life. She shares the importance of having good people around us to uplift us so that we are encouraged to do our best and to make life-altering changes, even when things seem insurmountable and obstacles are hard to navigate. Her story is a powerful reminder that faith can move mountains. Miskyah’s journey illustrates that with belief in God, inner strength, and resilience, one can overcome any challenge. She inspires women everywhere to trust in God and recognise that all things are possible through Him.

Faith will light the way
Miskyah’s story is a shining example of how faith can light the way, even in the darkest times. Major setbacks in her life could have easily deterred her, but Miskyah drew strength from her inner core, facing each new day with a renewed sense of purpose. Raising her two boys almost single-handedly, she nurtured them into successful adults, proving that anything is possible with love, dedication, and perseverance. Her story is not just about business success. It’s about a woman who has faced adversity head-on, who has fallen but always risen, stronger and more determined. Her journey from despair to triumph is a powerful reminder that no matter how often life knocks us down, we have the strength to rise again.

Leadership and resilience
Miskyah’s leadership at BDCS reflects her resilience. In an industry that requires keen insight and adaptability, she has navigated the complexities with grace and acumen. Her company not only survived the pandemic but has thrived, creating opportunities and changing lives.

Legacy of hope and empowerment
As we reflect on her journey, we see a woman who has not only built a successful company, but has also built a legacy of hope and empowerment.
