The third and final instalment of the “State Capture” Report was handed to President Cyril Ramaphosa on 1 March. It focused on the corrupt relationship between BOSASA and several senior ANC officials who allegedly took bribes to influence lucrative state contracts.

When one considers the rampant corruption, fraud, theft, racketeering, money laundering and wanton destruction of State-Owned Enterprises perpetrated by ANC deployed cadres, it is almost surreal this brazenly criminal network still governs a modern democracy like SA.

Evidently, the ANC has no desire to govern in the best interest of the people of South Africa. The governing party’s internal factional battles reveal a pernicious pursuit of power, position and privilege for the express purpose of self-enrichment at the expense of the tax-payer.

More ominous for the nation is the governing party’s inability to be honest and transparent. ANC media briefings are typically filled with outright lies, distortions and contradictions. For example, South Africa refused to vote on a UN Resolution condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine declaring, “It is against South Africa’s principles to takes sides in a conflict.”

This is a lie. The ANC government consistently takes sides in the Israel, Palestinian conflict – when it has every opportunity to mediate. In fact, SA always votes to condemn Israel at the UN and even recalled its ambassador for much less than what Russia is doing in Ukraine.

While the world condemns Russia’s aggression, the ANC condemns the EU sanctions leveled against it. Apparently, the Russian Embassy brags about SA’s solidarity with Putin. Now the US and EU are insisting the SA government clarify its stance on Russia.

Defence Minister, Thandi Modise and senior SANDF officials attended a cocktail party at the Russian Embassy to celebrate the Russian Motherland while its forces invaded Ukraine.

The ANC has made it clear it will do anything to remain in power. But not to “provide a better life for its people” – it has long abandoned the principles of the “Freedom Charter.” The ANC’s primary objective is power at all costs to serve its own criminal and ideological ends.

The “Independent Candidate Association” (ICA) released a Statement recently criticizing government’s resistance to meaningful electoral reforms in SA. It says, “Government is attempting to push through a flawed and unconstitutional Bill through Parliament with just 100 days to go to meet the Constitutional Court deadline to amend the Electoral Act.”

On 11 June 2020, the Constitutional Court ruled the ‘Electoral Act’ unconstitutional in that it fails to accommodate independent candidates in the General Elections. The ConCourt instructed Parliament to amend the ‘Electoral Act’ within 24 months to correct the defect.

However, the ICA believes government is pushing a Bill “intended to discourage independent candidates to stand and voters to elect them in favor of the current party dominated system” – which, incidentally, contravenes the spirit of the Constitutional Court judgment.

The current political party dominated electoral system (for the provincial and national) General Elections suits the corrupt objectives of parties like the ANC. Party members typically toe the party line and answer to party bosses – not the people who elected them to power.

Government is blatantly undermining the democratic process. The One SA movement says, “Parliament has only indicated now that public participation will begin 7 March 2022. However, there are no details in the public domain about these vital public meetings.”

The ANC will try to torpedoe the ‘Electoral Act Amendment’ to accommodate independent candidates in the General Elections because it potentially threatens its dominance in SA.

The Church and civil society must speak up now to demand a fair and transparent process regarding the ‘Electoral Act Amendment’ – so real change is possible in 2024.

It is critical believers pray for the ‘Electoral Act Amendment’ process. Also pray God will raise up competent and skilled independent candidates of integrity for the 2024 General Elections.
