My mom is my prayer partner, my best friend, and my rock. I don’t know what I would ever do without her.
A few months ago, towards the end of 2019, I almost lost her. It was while she was lying in ICU, in a deep coma, that God intervened and changed both of our lives. We serve a God of MIRACLES….
After a failed operation at a hospital in South Africa, one that had gone so horribly wrong, my mom suffered for many years with incredible pain. She lived off pain killers. One morning at the end of 2019, I found her collapsed on the floor – she had lost all consciousness. I immediately called the paramedics, who arrived with mere minutes to spare before she stopped breathing completely. I thank God that I had found her when I did, as she would have died within minutes without help. The paramedics managed to intubate her at the scene and she was airlifted to the Intensive Care Unit at the main hospital in the city.
If God can rescue my mom from premature death – He can do the impossible in your life too.
Very little chance of survival
By the time the helicopter reached the hospital, my mom had already slipped into a deep coma. I had been praying for her, crying out to God to save her life. There was no sign of life, and only a machine that was breathing for her. Looking at her with my natural eyes, her body was drained of all colour, she looked lifeless. There seemed very little chance of her survival. In the natural, there was no hope. Nine days went past – which felt like an eternity – and my mom was still unconscious, in a coma, in ICU. I had reached out to everybody I knew: my church, my friends, my family, everyone. There were people praying for her around the clock, 24 hours of the day.
God gave me a promise from His Word
It was a very dark period in my life. I felt trapped in the nightmare of possibly being left alone without my best friend and prayer partner – my beautiful mother. I turned to Christ, crying my heart out, and the Father gave me a word. I turned to Psalm 118:17, which reads, “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” The Lord promised me that she would live and not die, and she would go on to testify of the goodness of God. I clung on to that promise and made a decision to view the hopeless situation through the eyes of faith, believing for a supernatural turnaround. Some friends told me to just give up and allow her to die, while others told me to rise up and prophesy the outcome that I wanted. I decided to rise up and take God at His Word, to trust in His promises.
It wasn’t an easy road
There were numerous, numerous challenges ahead. It seemed like at every sign of hope, I was knocked back again by another bad report. For example, on both occasions that the consultants tried to extubate my mom, she nearly died because her throat was so swollen and no air could get through. The enemy did not relent, but I kept my eyes on God’s promises.
God was faithful in His promise
Nine long days later, after constant intercession and spiritual warfare, the Lord woke my mom up from her coma. It was a miracle in itself. The doctors were taken aback. God had given me a promise, and He was true to His Word. As she woke up from her coma, my mom had a smile on her face. She excitedly told me about what she had experienced over the last three weeks. It was phenomenal. She described the several different times that she had met with angels. During these supernatural visitations, they ministered to her and comforted her. They even gave her specific instructions to unconditionally forgive certain people who had wronged her. My mom had tears in her eyes as she told me how the Lord had protected her and kept her safe.
Whatever you are believing God for, stand firm on His Word and take it as the final authority.
God intervened and rescued us both
My mom stayed in hopsital for a few more weeks so that they could monitor her. A few days before my birthday, my mom was discharged from hospital. It was the most wonderful day of my life. I would not have been able to endure the situation for too much longer. I was drained, emotionally and physically exhausted, and reached the point where I would not be able to cope with the daily onslaught of the crisis for too much longer. But God intervened and rescued us both from the enemy’s plan for our lives.
Trust in Jesus in all your ways – He can do the impossible for you
If God can rescue my mom from premature death – He can do the impossible in your life too. Whatever you are believing God for, stand firm on His Word and take it as the final authority in your life. No matter how much the circumstances are screaming at you otherwise, continue to speak His Word. Intercede in the Spirit and things WILL change! I cherish every extra day that I have been given with my mom, and am so grateful to the faithfulness of our precious Jesus. My mom has definitely been given a second chance in life, and is a living testament to the fact that prayer works!
Singing His praises
To give back to God, as an offering of thanks, I have composed a worship album where I sing His praises.
