Shincheonji Volunteers spearheaded a vital initiative to address the ongoing blood crisis. Under the theme “Paint the Town Yellow,” this joint effort aimed to encourage donors to participate through their respective blood banks. This event not only signified a united effort to address the ongoing blood crisis but also highlighted the power of community collaboration in saving lives.

Amidst a global blood shortage, Shincheonji Church has been at the forefront of organizing blood drives to serve the community and offer support to those in need. The event on the 12th of April was part of a series of initiatives undertaken by the church to assist the Western Cape Blood Services in combating the pressing issue of blood scarcity.

“We are deeply committed to making a positive impact on the lives of others,” says Nic Ngcobo, spokesperson for Shincheonji Volunteers. “Through our ‘Paint the Town Yellow’ blood drive, we aim to rally individuals from all walks of life to join us in this lifesaving endeavor. Together, we can make a difference.”

In support of the event, the office of the Western Cape Premier as well as the office of the Deputy Mayor of the City of Cape Town called upon residents to visit their nearest blood bank and donate. Every donation has the potential to make a life-changing difference for patients in need of blood transfusions, with a single donation being able to save up to 3 lives. Premier Alan Winde urged residents to participate in the blood drive, to aid the medical teams supporting those who were affected.

Megan Philander, a congregation member of Shincheonji Church of Jesus, shared the following: “ In 2009, I was involved in a car accident that nearly took my life. Through having blood transfusions, I needed about 3 to 6 pints of blood, as the doctors told me. If it were not for those blood donations, I would not be here today. It is a really great initiative. The fact that Shincheonji is doing this and providing this platform for something that I have been wanting to do for a really long time, not just once but regularly.”
