There’s a moment when we hold our newborn in our arms, marvelling at their perfection. We search for the resemblance of ourselves in their tiny features – their smile, the waviness of their hair. Every little nuance becomes a cherished discovery as this new being enters our world, forever changing our routines and priorities. Sleep becomes elusive and our needs no longer come first. This little one, with their boundless demands and cries, quickly shows us who’s in charge. As parents, the desire to give them the best of everything takes root. Naturally, their education becomes one of our paramount concerns. We aspire to enrol them in the “best” schools, believing this will guarantee their preparedness for both the workplace and life. It’s only natural that we dream big dreams for our children.
God’s beautiful creation
But amid the whirlwind of daily life – balancing family, work, and countless other responsibilities – it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. Our children are not mere extensions of our ambitions; they are a beautiful creation from God, a precious gift. God’s design in creation reminds us that everything He makes is extraordinary. Consider the world of flowers. There are an estimated 250 000 to 400 000 species of flowering plants. How amazing is that? Each species, unique and magnificent, reflects God’s boundless creativity.
One size fits all?
In Genesis 2, God speaks of the creation of man, declaring that we are made in His image. If God invested such care in the creation of the plant and animal kingdoms, showcasing such vast diversity, how much more unique and different is every human being? This thought brings us to a pivotal question: if we place our children in a one-size-fits-all schooling system, are we truly allowing them to develop their full, God-given potential? What about the child who needs more personalised attention or the one who struggles to sit still? Too often we label them, dismissing their unique needs. Every child deserves the chance to dream and to nurture the talents embedded within them by their Creator. While some children may thrive in a traditional classroom setting, others may require a completely different environment.
Before choosing a school, consider this:
Times have dramatically changed, and many traditional schools have succumbed to societal pressures, adopting norms and practices that may not align with biblical principles. As parents, we must carefully and prayerfully evaluate the environment in which we place our children.
• Does the school’s curriculum instil Godly values?
• Are biblical principles interwoven into material that my child engages with daily?
• Does it teach my child to respect others and recognise that we are created in the image of a living God, rather than as mere products of a random cosmic event?
Exploring alternative education options
Thankfully, there are numerous educational pathways available today that align with a biblical worldview. One such option is the A.C.E. Highschool Diploma offered through institutions like Lighthouse Christian Academy. The A.C.E programme allows learners to work at their own pace, receiving individual attention from teachers as needed. The curriculum is rich with biblical truths, encouraging learners to see the world through the lens of a biblical perspective. The A.C.E. approach not only supports academic growth but also helps them become confident, well-rounded individuals ready to embrace both school and the adventures that await.
The blessing of Godly education
Alternative schooling programmes like A.C.E. emphasise not only academic excellence, but also the development of character and faith by fostering an environment where children can grow spiritually, emotionally, and intellectually. Learners not only learn about God, but also discover that He loves them and has a purpose for their lives. They are equipped not only with academic knowledge but also with strong moral values.
