In 2024, Alpha International marked its most successful year since the course began nearly five decades ago at Holy Trinity Brompton in London. Over two million people worldwide participated – the highest number in Alpha’s history – confirming its position as one of the most effective tools for exploring the Christian faith.
Now active in 146 countries and hosted at more than 81 000 locations, Alpha remains true to its original format: honest conversations, a warm welcome, and space to ask life’s biggest questions. Africa saw the most significant growth, with attendance rising by 47%, while more than 43 000 churches, organisations and individuals partnered to run courses globally.
A major development was the launch of the new Alpha Youth Series, which engaged over 250 000 young people in 53 countries within months. In fact, more than a third of all participants last year were under the age of 25 – a clear indication of Alpha’s growing relevance among younger generations.
Alpha’s appeal lies in its simplicity and relational approach. As Rev Nicky Gumbel has said, “It’s not a place where we share our faith, but a place where people can explore faith for themselves.” This ethos of invitation, not pressure, continues to resonate around the world.
From personal testimonies to national momentum, Alpha continues to thrive through local churches that open their doors and create room for meaningful encounters with the Gospel. What began in a church basement has become a global movement – and 2024 proved that the hunger to explore faith is stronger than ever.
