I received a surprising response to my newsletter last week, “The Church & South Africa’s Crisis of Truth.” The absence of Truth in South African society has precipitated a spiritual and moral decline that is unraveling our most sacred and foundational institutions.
Besides the widespread corruption – facilitated by the governing party – that has brought a once thriving economy to its knees, the State is also misusing its powers to undermine and manipulate bedrock social institutions like marriage, the natural family, the authority of parents, the safety, health and welfare of innocent children and religious freedoms.
The Psalmist asks the thought-provoking question, “If the foundations are destroyed what can the righteous do?” Ps 11:3. When foundational principles like the freedom to worship, the sanctity of marriage and the family, and the God-given authority of parents to discipline and raise their children in the ways of God are eroded, we must ask, “what can the righteous do?”
Response to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on 11 Feb, was subdued. Most hardworking and law-abiding citizens realise Mr. Ramaphosa’s promises to combat crime, revive the economy and create jobs – although good intentioned – are impossible to achieve without first eradicating rampant corruption within his own party.
Corruption within the governing party has reached crisis levels and Mr. Ramaphosa appears powerless to stop it. Even the funeral of ANC icon, Nelson Mandela was not spared. Most of the ANC officials implicated in massive corruption, fraud and theft of tax-payers money still enjoy all the benefits of high-paying public office while law-abiding citizens struggle.
As a result, we cannot depend on government, political parties, or even organized religion to save South Africa from becoming another failed African State. You and I must respond to the crisis our nation face with heartfelt prayer and strategic action that brings real change.
First, we must commit to fervently pray that God’s will be done for South Africa. Several prophesies indicate that the fire of revival will break out in the southern tip of Africa and rage up north. This fire will burn up the dross and ignite repentance and a hunger for God.
Second, the God-fearing and law-abiding citizens of South Africa must make a genuine commitment to rescue their nation from the clutches of the corrupt. This will involve united, strategic and purposeful action that encourages and promotes real and lasting change.
British Statesman, Edmund Burke said, “All that is necessary for evil to prosper is that good people do nothing.” Do you realise this is what’s currently happening in South Africa? A relatively small group of wicked people are willfully destroying the country while millions of good people look on. In fact, even the Church has been reduced to mere spectators.
South Africa does not belong to the ANC, to do with what it wants. This country belongs to all the people who call it home and who actively contribute to its success. Why are millions of citizens observing the destruction of their nation without making any effort to intervene?
You and I have the power to pray. To call out to God to intervene on our behalf. We can also act decisively to expose what is evil and promote what is good. Apathy in the Church is a major contributor to the frightening spiritual and moral decline in society. The silence of the Church validates deception. But what happens when the Church fulfils its prophetic role?
Fact: If you are not prepared to fight for what you believe, you don’t really believe it.
Here are some of the ways you can take action to protect and defend what really matters: help promote the “Smart Choices” values-based sexuality education curriculum to protect innocent children from dangerous sexual indoctrination and restore parental authority.
Make your voice heard on the “Single Marriage Statute” that seeks to redefine marriage. Marriage is a bedrock institution. If we allow it to be redefined to fit a wicked ideology, our foundations will be destroyed. Marriage and the family it finds – matters to all people.
If you require an example of the key issues raised in the SA Law Reform Commission (SALRC) Discussion Paper and the arguments we have made in defense of marriage, I will send you Family Policy Institute’s (FPI) submission to use as a guide. You can either formerly endorse FPI’s submission – if you agree with our arguments – or draft your own.
Please email me at enaidoo@familypolicyinstitute.com and request a copy of my submission. I will include a one page explanatory letter outlining the rationale for our arguments.
Finally, you can get involved or support the grassroots civil movements that are identifying, selecting and training competent men and women of integrity to stand as independent candidates in the upcoming Municipal Elections. The efforts of the “One SA” and “Devoted Citizen” movements will help identify and train potential candidates for public office.
The Electoral Act will be amended soon to allow independent candidates to run for public office in the General Elections in 2024. This will be a game-changer as it breaks the dominance of political parties and provides the electorate direct representation in Parliament.
So, there is more good news than we realise. But the good news lies in our abilities to affect change and transform our nation – which has not yet been fully comprehended. It is time to stand up and take back our nation. We must pray and act now for the sake of our children.
